Currently, I have mixed opinion of Mill Creek Elementary. I’ve talked with other schools in the area to see what they have to offer and how they conduct business. Mill Creek doesn’t have as many programs as some schools, but they also have more/better programs that lesser schools don’t have.Con: At the beginning of the school year, there was some disorganization administration wise. They didn’t put their best foot forward for the first orientation. The lack of organization may have been a fluke, but if other orientations/meetings are as disorganized as the first one, a self-evaluation needs to be conducted because some internal processes are broken. Pro: Mill Creek Elementary seems to have some good incentives for the children to learn. They had a great “Night of Reading” a few months ago where the school taught parents ways of helping their children read. It was very good for parents and they had pizza for the children afterwards. I expected a bigger turnout from parents, but I thought the program was great. I would like to see something like that offered once a month. The school has various reading charts they give out that offer rewards such as free pizza or free USC basketball tickets if a certain number of books are read in a certain time period. They have a treasure box in my son’s class where if you help students or do very good on assignments you get points. Once you get a certain amount of points you can get something from the box. You can also lose points for being bad. It is a very good reward and punishment system to help build character for a child that age.It would be nice to have the school teach a life skills/parenting class for parents of students. That would most likely be too controversial though.

If I could give this school a negative number, I would. I regret enrolling my children. If I could homeschool my children or enroll them into a different school, I would, in a heartbeat!

There are a few great teachers there. They are over worked and have large classes because parents want their children in those classes. Overall dismal experience child lost ground while we attended this poorly performing school.

I didn't enjoy it. My kindergarten child had a hard time this year and the class had almost 30 students at the beginning of the year. A new teacher didn't get hired until after Christmas...so the beginning of the year was chaotic with 2 kindergarten teachers.

My child has gone here for 4 years. This is probably the worst year yet. Lacks communication with parents. The excuse is because some parents aren't responsive. Some teachers never respond even in agenda book. No homework is really given to allow kids to practice what they are learning. The reason I got is because some kids don't turn it in so they don't want the bad grades to affect the grade average. Some teachers post weekly subject and study material on the school site but that is rare. The excuse i got is because of all the testing they do. They send home study guides two days before tests instead of Friday, so kids can get a bit of studying in on the weekend. Some teachers will not post grades until right before report cards go out. They don't inform you when your child receives negative grades. Even when your up there all the time. The principal doesn't seem to take in your concerns. I asked that the tutoring work be sent home for homework. He told me to give him a couple days to start the process going. Nothing ever happened. I ended up buying workbooks and now I'm winging it through the school year. I can't stand this school. There is no organization. Last year.

My daughter went to Mill Creek last year for perk. I am highly disappointed in this school. Unfortunately my daughter will be there for half the year of kindergarten until we move. I feel the school lacks any organization or idea of what is going on. They do not keep parents well informed as to what is going on and how the kids are doing. There are a small handful of teachers that are just amazing and care about what the children are learning and not just constantly yelling at the children. I am looking forward to getting my child out of this school to somewhere she can actually get a good education.
