Howbert is a great school. The principal and staff know the kids by their names and greet them every morning. They truly care about every child. The teachers encourage everyone to do their best and they are teaching kindness and respect.

Love, love, love Howbert Elementary Schol! Ms. Kenzie, Ms. Cierra, Ms. Vanessa, Mr. Lefere, Mrs. Starkey, Mr. Miner, Ms. Amanda, and everyone who's name I don't know yet is wonderful! I chose for my child to go here because of the outdoor learning element. It is so cool to see so many pictures of the students learning outside. And the new landscaping (which includes a sensory garden) is amazing!

My son is now in high school and my daughter is in fifth grade and both started at Howbert their kindergarten year. We have consistently been impressed with the teachers that our children have had. They genuinely care about their students and their education. We love the clubs and activities offered by the school and the small community feel that it has. The principal and staff know the kids by their names when they are greeting them! We love Howbert and will be sad when we don’t have any children there anymore.

We love Howbert and have been very pleased with our child's education there. It is a tight-knit school that has a real sense of community. My favorite things are how the kids get lots of time outside nearly every day, how the kids are greeted by name when they walk into school and how little turnover there is with the staff.

Howbert is a great school and we love it. The staff and teachers are some of the kindest people to have ever been in a school and they make the environment wonderful to be in. They are all supportive of every student and never stop encouraging everyone to do their best. We would highly recommend this school to any parents.

We love Howbert and are so grateful to have this as our neighborhood school. The school is small and has such a wonderful sense of community that you just don’t get at other schools. We also love that it is the Pathway Outdoor Education School for District 11 and they partner with Catamount Institute to help get our kids outside. No school has a better staff or community than Howbert!

When it came time to choose a school for our kiddo (during the pandemic) we really struggled. It was important to us that they attend a public school, close to our community, that would provide the correct balance of challenge and support in a learning environment. Howbert has been a great fit. Our kiddo has had reading intervention since kindergarten - I have seen tremendous improvement. Our kiddo is now in second grade and at grade level. We also love the outdoor learning emphasis. The students all experience outdoor education curriculum through the Catamount Institute. Proximity to Garden of the Gods and Rock Ledge Ranch make for natural outdoor classrooms. In all, I would highly recommend Howbert to anyone looking for a solid, student centered, public elementary school.

The staff at Howbert truly care about students. The communication is constant, clear and consistent. The new outdoor innovation status has expanded student opportunities allowing students to apply what they learn in a fun, hands-on way.

Howbert Elementary is a lovely mid century style neighborhood school on Colorado Springs southwest side. We choiced in because Howbert is an outdoor learning school. The partnership with the Catamount Institute and the close proximity to the southern end of Garden of the Gods Park and Rock Ledge Ranch allows for walking field trips and outdoor education in the most beautiful part of COS. The teachers and staff know both my kids well and do a wonderful job of engaging with them in smaller classroom environments. We love Howbert!

This school is a hidden gem! Tucked away next to Rockledge Ranch and Garden of the Gods, it earns its reputation as The Outdoor School! Kids get to take regular walking field trips to these beautiful outdoor locations, as well as teachers finding other opportunities for regular outdoor learning. I’m excited to see what the future holds as the district supports our school to develop as an outdoor learning pathway even more! All three of my kids have gone through Howbert, and I couldn’t be happier with the school we chose. Besides outdoor learning, Howbert is such a supportive community of teachers who really seem to love their jobs, and have always worked hard to support my kids as individuals. I’ve never felt like they got lost in the shuffle here. Now, my oldest two are in advanced classes in middle school, mainly because their Howbert teachers encouraged them and saw their potential as learners. I’m so grateful for the wonderful education (both academically and socially/emotionally) my kids have gotten at Howbert, and will be so sad my last kid is done there! Hopefully you will find this community as welcoming as I have.

Not a great school if your child needs additional help. You'll face controversy if you send your 5 yr old to Kindergarten and not preschool. 6 and 7 year olds are the norm there. Don't expect exciting or educational field trips. Their only field trip was a few blocks away to the Garden of the Gods Information Center, not even the actual park. Howbert isn't open to the fact that kids learn at different paces. They strictly adhere to D-11 s guidelines. My son never went to preschool. Although he was slightly under standardized test scores, he made significant improvements each quarter. I saw his ability to learn this much and this fast in a year. They did not. The principal was angered when I declined her suggestion of holding him back another year. Their arguments turned to personal attacks (my son was listening to the whole thing). His principal pointed to his stick figure drawings. "Look at his people. There's no neck or body. This is a sign of immature thinking and underdevelopment". VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. This made my son cry. I had to reassure him that he was smart. I had to repair the emotional damage that his "mentors" caused. To us, Howbert was detrimental and very callous.

My two girls have had a wonderful experience at Howbert. Each needed extra help with reading & the ILP support was there every year. By the time they were out of 3rd grade they were both at an above average level. My oldest is now at Holmes and has two AP classes....from ILP to advanced due to positive encouragement from Howbert staff, solid teaching and home support. Also, the music program is so strong! Mrs. K offers choir, orchestra and band to 3, 4, and 5th grade. That is a lot of work and dedication. Basketball, chess club and other extras are also offered for the higher grades. The teacher turnover is low and the parents are very involved. Definately a gem in D11!

This school is WAY to strict and process oriented. If your child is not "middle of the road" they will not do well here. It does not promote free thinking, more like stifles it. My son currently attends this school but I intend to fix that. With any luck the new leadership next year will fix this.

A very small school so certain resources are very limited. New comers are not made to feel very welcome. Parents are very involved which is great.
