Principal and staff are dedicated to improving the school. The atmosphere and quality of leaning is much better than expected. We have been impressed by the quality of education our kids are receiving.
It's sad to say that Bethune has really went down hill. I can't believe that the 5th graders are not having a graduation. It makes me so mad that they've decided not to have one for these kids. These kids really worked hard to get to where they are, and for you not to show them they are appreciated, What kind teachers/principle are you guys? I mean like really. My kids will not be attending this school anymore.

They are very unprofessional and mean to some of the children kids are going to be kids (hardheaded) but they are kids and if you can't deal get another job.

My students have gone to Bethune since Kindergarten and as we prepared to send my son to middle school I felt excited for my son about his new endeavors, but sad that we were leaving a home away from home. As my daughter completes her last year here it will be bitter sweet. The teachers have been personable and open, the staff in general has been friendly and inviting, and administration has always stuck by an open door policy. If improvements were made they could grow by increasing the transparency of opportunities for school involvement and teacher accessibility (implementing teacher websites). Overall, we will miss our school and I use it as a bar by which I measure all others.

I am the parent of a second and fourth grade student at Bethune. I just want to say that overall I think Bethune Elementary is good school. The school has a leadership change, but it is all for the better. Before the new administration, teachers were allowed to scream and yell at the students, even abuse them physically. I know the teachers very well, and I know the cruel things that they say about students, especially those students who perform at a low level, and I know the ugly things that are said about school leaders that are not true. I can only speak for my personal experience, the school staff is friendly and I feel welcome when I go in to the building at Bethune. The school could be even better if parents were more supportive and focused on the right thing, which is student achievement, rather than wanting to have relationsips with school teachers and principals. They are not there to be our friends, they are there to educate kids. We need to support academic education, and not the other things serve no good purpose for our school or our community. Why send bad comments about our school when you are only talking about yourself and downing your own property value.

my student is going to the 2nd grade this coming school year, he has been in this school since pre k, when Dr Miller was the principle there was a lot of parent participation, however when Mrs Zina Rhodes took the position, she is selective in who she speaks to, you cant get an interview with counseling, school uniform not enforced, teacher moral is down, parent participation is down, and this in my opinion has to do with the leadership of the school. This school is in my neighborhood, the assistance principle is invisible. I rated the school a three only because, the teachers who are left really want to teach and they are there for the kids.

I am a parent and I am very pleased with the Bethune Elementary. The vision that the new principal has for the school is phenomenol and I hope that the parents and teachers can get with her program. There is such a dramatic change in the attitude of the teachers over the past year with the new principal. She has high expectations for the staff and students and this is evident in the way the teachers have begun to behave and teach. Teachers do not yell at the students anymore and they are required to contact parents in a timely manner. Administrators and teachers can not do the job alone. The one thing that is lacking at Bethune is parent involvement. Parents must get on board and be there. My child is excelling academically and their teachers push them and provide me with information so that I can assist them at home. Great school - proud panther parent!

My son attended this school for Pre-K and is now in Kindergarten. He reads, writes sentences, completes addition and subtraction. He does some science and social studies work. I am very pleased with his academic achievements and development. I am in partnership with the teachers and school to insure that he is on track to first grade. So much so that he has already been identified as a gifted student. I volunteered in the class room yesterday and must say that parents should be required to spend some time helping out in the classroom because it makes a difference. I think teachers should be paid top CEO pay.

My son is in Pre-K at Bethune and I must admit I am very pleased with the school and their efforts. I can tell the school staff are all committed to the kids and their learning. It is refreshing and as my first point of reference for a public school I look forward to my son attending Kindergarten. I think he is well prepared by the curriculum given to in in Pre-K and the work we did at home. Yes parents, I also had to contribute to my son's learning and will continue to do so! Respectfully, Mom "Each one teach one..."
