Learn 6 Charter has been a blessing to us. They have teachers who love their jobs and love their students. My daughter wants to attend school everyday. When I have concerns I feel that my voice is heard as a parent. My child has excelled above and beyond because of the support she receives at Learn.

"Thank you, Lord!" That was my reaction when my daughter's number came up in the initial "lottery" used to select children allowed to enroll in this college prep elementary school when they opened their doors in the fall of 2012. My daughter will have completed both 7th and 8th grades at this Campus (she will be part of Learn 6's first graduating class on May 27th). I attended a few focus group meetings leading up to the school opening and was amazed at some of the resistance to a Charter School being opened in what has historically been an under-performing North Chicago School District. When given the opportunity to provide input on what I wanted in our school, I responded by simply stating - "Teachers that want to teach". The teachers and support staff at Learn 6 have exceeded my expectations. Every contact I have had with the staff has been positive and productive. Ms. Kelly Tyson, who "fleeted up" to the Principal's position (after starting the school year as its Vice Principal) has been nothing short of wonderful! She took an active role and engaged both 8th graders and their parents in the application/testing process for admittance into college prep high schools.

This is the second year my two kids have attended Learn 6. Although my children were already good students, they continued to experience tremendous growth at this school. The longer school year and school day posed a challenge initially, but we have now adjusted and come to love this aspect of the school (from a parent's perspective). Even though the curriculum is challenging and discipline a priority, it is impressive how the teachers still manage to be very caring and encouraging. It is apparent they want your kids to achieve both academically and socially. My husband recently got out of the military and we stayed in the area solely because of this school. It is diverse and continues to set high expectations for the students. One of my concerns is that the staff is not always welcoming to parents when you pass them in the halls. This behavior was discouraged by the first principal but seems to no longer be a priority. My second concern is what will happen when students graduate and are expected to attend the underachieving high school. Overall, I must end on a good note, and say how appreciative I am for my children having the opportunity to attend this school.

My child attended 7th grade in this school's first year (2012-2103). I was quite impressed in the beginning with the expectations of the both the staff and the students, however as the school year progressed it seemed to me policy and procedure became relaxed. The principal who was there at the beginning of the school year did not continue throughout and I think this why (he was a very strict and professional man). I do believe my child is receiving a wonderful education though, and the reading specialist (Ms. L) they have for middle school is a kind but firm lady, and my child improved a great deal because of her guidance/efforts. The teachers are always prompt to call/email for a job well done or to let you know what your child could improve upon. My child had a couple things stolen this year, and to be honest it upset me the school and homeroom teacher could have cared less, but I suppose it would have happened anywhere. The receptionist could also use a lesson in smiling and customer service. Overall, I think the school s headed in the right direction going into its second year, and recommend it (if you can get in via the lottery) to anyone.

Love love love this school. The area could not have asked for a better school. It provides the area with much needed structure and the student teacher ratio is great. Zampini and Cooney have done an excellent job leading our students.

I have nothing but great things to say about this school! Learn 6 has very high standards both academically as well as how the students are expected to conduct themselves. I believe the community will reap the rewards of such a great school. The teachers and administration truly care and it shows!!

Very happy with the teachers and staff. My child loves it. I am not a fan of the extra long school year, but it is a very minimal thing compared with all the positive things about this school. Looking forward to seeing this school grow.

Challenging academically. Teachers are attentive and eager to lead and teach. Principal is "no nonsense" but caring/compassionate.
