We moved into the neighborhood in 2017 and have been pleased with the school and the teachers. Parents must be involved with the process to ensure your child is having their needs met. We have 3 kids in the school now and one that graduated out at 8th grade. There are a lot of learning activities to keep the kids engaged. They need more sports on site considering there is an entire ball field at the school. Adding more sports will certainly help with the social aspect and physical movement.

We decided to send our daughter here because it had a good reputation at the time. She is now a senior in high school and the math teachers and curriculum was just awful. She excelled in reading and writing but in math she was very behind when she started high school. It is also not a good place for children to grow socially and mentally or to make friends. If a parent does not have time to make friends with the "right" parents, your child will be excluded from everything and left alone on the sidelines. The administration was also befriended by these same parents so the rest of the kids don't stand a chance. If there is a preferred teacher, those parents and the administration will make sure their kids get them, and make sure all the children in the "cliques" get put together. This just makes the cliques stronger and the rest weaker. The behavior tolerated, especially the boys in my daughter's year, was atrocious and definitely should have been dealt with. The parents of these children all have the attitude of "not my child", so quiet ones never felt they could ask for help. Thank goodness my daughter got away from most of them and found a much better place to go to high school. Overall, not a great environment academically or emotionally.

We love Edgebrook and couldn’t be happier with this school. The teachers have shown flexibility and dedication in these last two years. They’ve truly put their heart into teaching our children.

Do not recommend. Principal is nice but the atmosphere is toxic and so is a majority of the parent population.

I’m so surprised by the negative review. First, the principal information is outdated and incorrect. While the pandemic learning was not ideal, I felt the school did its best. The teachers were kind and helpful and communication was fantastic. This school is no different than Sauganash and Wildwood. Greatschools.org needs to update its outdated info.

How a school responds in a pandemic shows the heart that is there. We have been nothing but happy with how gracefully Edgebrook School has handled this past year of learning. The teachers have been able to navigate this new learning landscape and the administration has listened and problem-solved when necessary. We have been pleasantly surprised with how well this year went for our student and look forward to when school resumes in the fall.

It’s a great school with dedicated teachers and support staff. They’ve worked so hard to navigate the learning environment during a pandemic and should be applauded.

I wish we had other choices. My child is not happy here.

We were lucky enough to get a spot at Edgebrook through the CPS lottery. I thought it would be difficult for my child switching schools, but it has been wonderful. She's made many new friends and is finally being challenged academically. We love the school and feel very fortunate to be there. The new principal is always available and working hard to keep Edgebrook among the best in Chicago.

Great school community. Primary grade teachers have all been wonderful, creative teachers. The school is very responsive to kids and families needs. Leadership with a vision and very child-centered. Terrific school!

We moved to the neighborhood after hearing great things about Edgebrook School. I have to say that we are quite disappointed. It appears that most of the teaching happens at home and is re-enforced at school which appears to be backwards. Also, homework goes unchecked for several weeks and we question the quality of education our children are receiving here. In our opinion, the school rankings are reflective of the parental involvement in this school rather than the teaching standards, which appear to be mediocre to say the least. We will be looking at other options next year.

I absolutely loathe this school's middle school! It is graded on something called the effort system, where you are graded on how hard you try. This is specifically for homework only. So you can get 100% even if you get all the answers wrong but as long as you did your homework, you get a good grade.

Lots of bullying by parents as well as students. Unfortunately, the current principal and employees clearly favor the bully parents and also participate in bullying the others. Very rude staff. My daughter is in her third year here and the academics are just okay. New principal coming soon so hopefully some things will change. It is very clear that special treatment is given to certain parents and students, whom the rules to not apply to. As stated by some other reviewers, this school has a very "elitist" attitude and if you are not in the "elite" group, you and your child/children can be treated badly by the schoo, schizophrenia, and other students.

Great School. One of the very best neighborhood schools. Dedicated core of experienced teachers and staff. Committed parent volunteers make this school a great community experience.
