For starters, the leadership at the school is beyond terrible. They do not take bullying seriously. My student was physically assaulted multiple times and accused of serious threats all which were lies and considered unsubstantiated after their “investigation.” Those student(s) did not get suspensions. The restorative practice does not work and is not being done properly. There are neighboring schools that they can take notes from. My student was failing and did not feel safe attending school. Now that my child is attending another neighboring school, my child is thriving and getting good grades and has many friends. Why? Because the leadership at the new school involves parents together when there is an issue and sees to it that it stops immediately.

The building is very old, outdated, and in need of some repairs. When I used the girl's bathroom it was dirty, the heating pipes weren't secured ( took pics) paint was peeling, and the floors and bathroom stalls were dirty and disgusting. Can you believe this is a grammar school?! I don't know why the City and COS( a joke) haven't closed the school down and made the principal fix the school over the summer that's how badly the school needs to be repaired. The food is disgusting and should not be given to the students to eat. I wouldn't give my dog the food I've seen they serve the students, and I don't have a dog.Who monitors these schools to see what they are serving the students and if the schools are being maintained?I had 3 children attend Boone, now called Mosaic School of Fine Arts, and they told me that they did not feel like they were prepared for high school when they graduated ( something I always felt and spoke about to the principal, but it fell.on deaf ears.) In my opinion, this is not a good school. This school ranks low compared to the other schools nearby and that's ashamed. I know someone who used to work at Boone/Mosaic and now works at a neighboring school and she said students at the other school are excelling, including the students who receive an IEP( another disappointment at Boone/Mosaic.) I feel as though some, not all, of the teachers, aren't good teachers and are only there for a paycheck. The teachers who do care about students' success ( not many) are not supported by the administration and this is why students at this school continue to test low among their peers. Until new administrators are put in place and the removal of bad teachers are, I don't see much hope for the students unless the parents, many of who are low-income, get together and demand their students have better teachers and a clean and safer school, Boone/Mosaic is going to continue as “business as usual” and students are going to continue falling behind. I am going to try to do my part and fight for the students, but I am only one person. This is the year 2023, and it's time for people to make a change and demand our children get the best education possible or we will shut them down. No more being paid to do the bare minimum. No more subpar education. Our children are our future and if they are receiving the proper education from people who give a damn, we are doomed as a country. We aren't living in a 3rd world country, so why is this happening?

Our child has been there for two years. In that time, I've come to love the diversity of the school (both student and staff). Among students, it's not the just racial diversity, but the diversity of life experiences that is an invaluable educational experience. The staff is dedicated and caring. The performing arts focus of the school is great for students. Our child is a relatively high performing student, and she has always been challenged academically.

Boone was the school we selected before purchasing our home. As parents who are educators within CPS, we loved everything about Boone for our children. It's inviting, diverse, strong in the visual and performing arts and rated at the highest level under CPS. I have gotten exactly what I demand and expect from Boone. Every year so far has surpassed my expectations.

Between preschool and 6th grade, my kids have attended four CPS schools and two local private schools. None of those other school experiences was bad. But none compares to the community we’ve found at Boone. Our kids are not only being given a fantastic education, they are being nurtured and encouraged to always be the very best versions of themselves.

Excellent school! While other schools are getting rid of their arts programming, it is flourishing at Boone! Great access to music, drama, art and technology as well as caring teachers.

I've had my children in Boone for three years. I actually pulled one of them out of Decatur (right? the penultimate school on the north side) in favor of Boone. Boone has compassionate, creative teachers and staff. The principal is setting an excellent example to the staff for dedication, respect, and innovation. The performing arts curriculum and after-school free programming give my kids the needed FULL educational experience, not just math and English. Boone has come light-years from where it was 3 years ago before the new Principal, with multiple grants, more staff training, and an invested community that sees the value of participating in the culture of the school. Please, see how the reviews changed starting with Ms. Delaney's placement as principal 3 years ago and you will understand that the average rating on this website does not do this school justice.

As a loving parent, it's being a blessing to have my daughter enrolled at Daniel Boone Elementary School and last but not least the before and after school program is also excellent with a great staff of professionals.

My daughter has been at Boone since kindergarten. This is a school that has improved tremendously in the past three years since the new principal came in. It always had excellent teachers but now we also have technology, more programs and grants seem to be pouring in. The diverse body of students and teachers makes it a great learning environment. I also recommend the after school program wholeheartedly. It offers after and before school care for a very reasonable price, kids can be dropped off at 7 in the morning and picked up at 6 in the afternoon.

Boone school provides a warm, welcoming, loving environment for nearly eight-hundred students from a wide range of cultures. Its art program is stellar; with full time fine art, music, drama, and dance staff, each child is exposed to the arts multiple times each week and many have an opportunity to perform during each school year. Additionally, the arts team favors an interdisciplinary approach so that a classroom study of fairy tales might turn into a theater production, with corresponding music and dance. The teachers are dedicated, creative, and responsive. In the three years my child has been at Boone, each of his teachers has been eager to communicate and partner with parents to meet the needs of each child. This caring extends beyond homeroom teachers. When walking through the hallways, each staff member greets each child by name Boone is home to students from a variety of religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Each child finds dignity and respect at Boone. I am pleased that my child is able to learn with and from students and teachers from such a diversity of backgrounds. I know this will serve him as he moves through life. We love the Boone community.

I toured the school today with my wife as we look for a school for daughter. We have never considered Boone school because of the reports of overcrowding. But with the building of another local school Boone now has 800 students which is half of the attendance a few years ago. The great leadership of the new administration combined with strong corporate and community sponsorship have really made an amazing positive impact. The students are really well behaved and engaged. The specials are impressive and include dance, music, art and a computer lab with programming lessons. We hope they expand their preschool so that we can send our daughter there.

As a community member and a mother of a two year old, Boone has been on our radar for a few years as well. We are thrilled to see that they've been awarded a Target grant -- meaning a new library, iPads, computers and 2000(!) new books. Thrilled to hear of all the good things happening with their resources and teachers (WGN teacher of the month). Love this community and the recent successes of our neighborhood school.

This school has been on our radar for the last year or so as the houses around it are fantastic (sturdy and well - priced for the north side.) I have met with the assistant principal and found her very welcoming and the facility seems well cared for. Plus, one of the teachers was recently awarded the WGN teacher of the month award. I am considering sending my daughter for pre-k (assuming we can get in.)

I am a 7th grader at Boone going to be on 8th grade. I have been in boone since I was in pre-k and I love it. All of my teachers are extremely helpful when I don't understand a question, they also help you to cope with stress and things that are causing you problems. Just a few months ago most of the Middle school in Boone helped us paint the bathroom stalls, we did paintings for the walls in Boone so now it looks like a remodeled school. I am very sad to leave this school and I will always be a pure Boonie at heart no matter were I go

My kids were transfer to Boone from Budlong Elementary School. I am very happy with the transfer. Everyone in the school is very friendly and helpful. I am very pleased with the security, they have someone at each door making sure only students and teachers come in. So that makes me feel at ease when I leave my kids at school. They have lots of things for the kids to do after school. Knowing that my kids will be getting art incorporated into their curriculum is great, I believe a kid needs to explore their creative side and it will help them with the other subjects they have in school. It is very organize and when I drop my kids off, everything runs smoothly. I really believe that Boone's first priority is the kids and their well being. I had an issue with one of the Kindergarten assistants, I talked to the teacher and the issue was solve next day. Unfortunately, for the assistant, she got fired. This showed me that they will not tolerate any non-sense and that if at any time a teacher or staff is not doing what they should, they will not have that person in their school. I highly recommend this school. Parents get involved, and don't complaint if you don't. The teachers are great!

As a new upcoming 8th grader I'm sad to say it will be my last year here at Boone. Boone has so many great qualities for ex) it's diverse, it's open to the public, and it's located in one of Chicago's safe and friendly neighborhood. I have so many great memories of making friends and meeting new teachers. I hope in my last year of Boone i cherish all these moments for they will never be lost. 8th grade may be the "finish line" however even the "finish line" is just the beginning of the whole race. Forever long live Boone! thank you for all you've given to me!

I am a parent of a current Boone school student and my son graduated from there almost fiver years ago. I have been very happy with Boone school for my 12 years of involvement there. I have not found the teachers lazy - on the contrary I have found them to be extremely good overall and very hardworking. The most recent comments are so vague and uninformed. What exactly happened to make you make that accusation that the teachers are lazy? How long have your children been attending Boone? Have you ever volunteered? Are you aware that regular public schools like Boone have to accept whatever child lives in the neighborhood that comes to the school? So that means there will be kids there who are the products of whatever home environment in which they have been brought up. Do you go to the school during the day to observe? Have you ever asked if they need help? Or, are you one of those parents who drops her kids off and expects the school to take care of the rest? You sound like complainers and not people who actually find out what is really happening. So easy for you! And lazy! By the way, school lunches are dictated by the District not the school.

THIS SCHOOL IS HORRIBLE! To be honest, it USE To be a very good school! I don't know what happend, but from my experience; There is Fights ALMOST EVERY WEEK! The food looks uttertly disgusting, the staff are rude! The teachers there, are lazy! With the staff and everything, they don't even do anything to prevent the fights! Horrible horrible school. I'm very glad this is my last year! I MOST CERTAINLY NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL.
