Worst school any one of my children have attended. Crime and bullying is a huge problem and leadership is highly tolerant of it. If there are 99 effective ways to deal with a problem, leadership will choose the one that clearly won’t work. No accountability, everything is about delegate, deny and dismiss. If you love your children you should avoid this place. Worst school admin we’ve ever seen.

As a military family that has moved several times and been in over 6 schools, this school is by far the worst. The leadership is clueless, safety is NOT a priority, students are not held accountable for their actions and the list goes on. The teachers have been pretty good-definitely responsive to emails and easy to get in touch with any concerns. I would NOT recommend any Chesapeake schools. The ratings keep going down and I see why.

Teachers are so friendly and they care about their students. Every single school staff are amazing! We love this school,my kids are always looking forward to go to school.

Bullying is renamed “mocking” and “teasing” it’s a privileged white school where the kids think they can get away with anything. My child can’t wait to leave because every day she gets harassed by the other kids. It’s a wide spread problem. If your child is one of the popular kids that wears Lululemon and comes to school in a 100k car they’ll do fine.On the positive side the teachers and the principal are very good.

Unhappy! Was misled! Disappointed ! Overcrowded ! Unsafe! Disciplinary issues all over the school that are not addressed . Test scores are what they are becuase for months they cram the SOL down the kids make kids retake and retake to get the right scores ... state of virginia took from educational funds in 2008- has not been restored ... a 6th grader brought a knife to school 2 weeks ago... we are pulling together as a community purely by donations to ALL schools to raise money for security . Our state/city isn't doing it ?! Over crowded and lots of families just got rezoned so we will loose some but gain just as many with the rezone from another school to ours.I have to say the teachers are wonderful! I don't see how they do it !Admin does what they can , but lots of unsupervised kids with no parental guidance and communication with the school , admins hands are tied with kids that have issues and legal processes in place for the kid to go to this school and they can't touch them so they continue to behave the way they do.. fights occasionally ...broke up quickly but not quickly enough ...This school is NOT anything I thought it was going to be .

My children and I have had a very positive experience during their 3 years at Great Bridge Middle. The staff are caring and helpful. I think it's important for any school, that the parent is involved and supportive of the administration as well. I can only hope that we have a similar experience with high school!

This is out first year in GB and my 6th grade child is being challenged, which is a plus in my book. We came from great schools outside of VA. There are lots of clubs, parent involvement, experienced staff. My child’s teachers are ‘tough’ and have high expectations. So far we are pleased with the high standards.

You can feel safe about your child attending this school. We moved from a small town in Alaska at the same time that my son was to transition to middle school. I think I was just as nervous as he was. Each grade has a specific hallway. The 6th grade hall is red. If they turn the wrong corner, the walls and trim are blue and they are on the 7th grade hall. Within each grade are teams. So, my child's team of core teachers (English, Math, Science, History) are positioned with 2 classes to the left, and two classes across the hall. No running from one class to the next. The whole class stands up and goes to the next class right next door or across the hall. The 6th grade has lunch together and they sit with their team. The 6th grade has P.E. as a group, (no sharing the locker room with 7th and 8th graders). The meeting with the teachers are always with the whole team. They really do work together to help a child meet their potential. I have heard the Principal speak to parents on a few occasions and he just says the same speech each time (stuff about cell phone misuse, and the changes that have occurred in the district since he started teaching 45 years ago). Thats not such a bad thing.

We started with Cedar Road Elementary, then Great Bridge Middle, and now at Grassfield High School - of all the school experiences Great Bridge Middle is head and shoulders above the rest! At both other schools my child was repeatedly attacked - during the three years at Great Bridge Middle we had NO INCIDENTS which allowed my child to thrive and enjoy his education. There are clear and distinct differences in levels of professionalism, spirit, teamwork, and passion for education in this school than any other school. From the Administration level to the teacher level and the assistants level - everyone had a vested interest in all the students that attended. It is truly remarkable how good management and good moral leaves a lasting effect on not just the students but the parents as well. We will always be grateful and hold fond memories of Great Bridge Middle and our experience there.
