My kids came from an out of state school where they werent fans of going to school. Since we moved here they love going and have thrived at Chittum. Every year the teachers are wonderful and give a little more time for the kids that need it. The teaching assistants are also always amazing.

School is less than 2 years old. State of the art facility. Great school staff and very communicative with families. Very secure facility. My kids love all of their teachers here.

Maybe Chittum should be more focused on having grades and actual curriculums for the students rather than having spirit weeks every single week of the school year… I’m truly disappointed that with all the money that went into the new building and these kids don’t learn anything.

My son has attended Chittum since 1st grade and he has had some AMAZING teachers! He receives special education services and I couldn´t ask for a better SpEd team! They truly care about his success! We bought our home so he could attend Chittum and there is no doubt that we made the best decision for our family. Thank you Chittum Bear Family!

This score is way off! We have only been at Chittum for a short time because we have a kindergartner, but everyone has been great. From admin to bus drivers, they all seem to genuinely care about my kid. The new school opened Spring 2022 too and it’s awesome!

I'm a teacher in another school system and I can definitely tell you that this school is amazing. It is very hard finding a house in this school zone but it is definitely worth it. His teacher drove to drop off gifts in the mailbox during Covid and spent time doing one on one lessons after school hours. They go above and beyond at this school. My son loves it.

My son attended K-5th and my daughter K-2nd grade. The teachers were all very experienced, friendly and cared about the kids. They were fun yet no nonsense. I spent time as a room parent and volunteered weekly in the library. It was really fun and I met all the class parents and got to know the kids. I was able to fully immerse and observe the staff in action more so than what you get at an open house or conference. Curriculum seems standard for any public school. It was rigorous and there’s homework. There is also dedication to teaching soft skills in character, empathy and understanding of others. Communication completely integrated online in ParentVUE system. Within the last few years I’ve seen a lot of exciting new clubs such as the Lego robotics, Girls who Code and running club. We are disappointed with the music program and not being able to start violin this year because of COVID. Society needs music more than ever right now.

I have one child who attended K-5th grade at Chittum and one child there now. All the teachers have been great and really seem to care about the students.

I have had 4 children attend this school in the last 4 years. We have not have had one bad teacher. In fact, each one has been very proactive in solutions to help my children succeed with their abilities. I have had two in gifted programs, one with a mod-severe disability in special ed, and one with ADHD in a regular class, with pull-out one on one time. We have experienced the gammet of what this school can do. The parent/teacher communication is fantastic, and they really help play to the strengths of each child.

Awful, they school has an arrogant feel to it when you walk in to when you sign your child out. I felt the felt they were so great but in reality, they lack social ability to show kindness and manners. My son is doing far better since leaving and I feel Public School is exactly what I thought it was... My child won't get lost in the numbers nor will my child learn from Adults who have no social skills to display proper manners. I never got a Good Morning ever from the school. Pretty sad!

Both of my daughters attend presently, and I could not be more proud of the how well they have learned material in class. They are exceeding my expectations in learning and social development. In my opinion this is due to the excellence of the teaching staff. I would without a doubt, recommend EW Chittum to any parent looking to move into the Western Branch area of Chesapeake.

I moved here with my kindergartener in December of this school year. From day one it has been bad. I had to go to the school several times to just enrol her. I wasn't given ANY info that parents are given in the beginning of the year! I wasn't told what time the bus would come or what early dismissal ment for my half day child or what snow delay ment for us. The first early dismissal day the bus never showed up so I called the office and they then informed me that the bus comes an hour early for my child and acted as if I should have known and then wanted to know why I wasn't going to bring her for the hour and a half remaining in her school day. One day the bus didn't show up so I called the office to let them know and they informed me that the school day hours for my child's class had changed and she was already late. I was never informed that the school day started 15 minutes earlier! Also I said something to her teacher a few weeks later and she said she was not informed either. I showed up for book fair in the first day and displayed in all the signs and in the paper sent home and I was turned away and told it wasn't for students yet. I was told my child would not be in the year book so I fid not order one. Then was informed she was in it. I called the office first thing the next day and was I formed there was one left. I told them who I was and said I was coming immediately. I put shoes on all my kids got in the car and drive the 3 minutes to the school. Got to the office and they sold it as soon as they got off the phone with me. I have had to fill out paperwork several times over because the school loses it. This is all in just a few months. What is wrong with these people. They are obviously not military friendly as we move in the middle of the year all the time. We even bought a house in this community because we were told the school was so great. I have yet to see anything great about this school!! So this is all in 5 months and there is more I could write a book. Be weary of puting you child here!!!! Especially if you have a choice and especially if you are military. I don't think the teachers are bad but the people who actually run the school need improvement!!!!! It's sad very sad.

Chittum is the best kept secret in Chesapeake! It is dubbed a public, private school! I truly cannot say enough about Chittum-my oldest just graduated and he was very sad to leave. I have two other boys attending and from the GATE program for advanced students to the special education services for those in need, Chittum rocks!
