I really enjoyed the experience at Washington Elementary for my son, there were many programs and supports and the teacher communication was wonderful!

My child is new to the district and has ASD. I was scared to start the year at a new school, but quickly learned that Washington has the curriculum to accommodate ALL children coping and learning on the spectrum. The entire staff seems to just cohesively work toward every student's best interest and help each student work with his or her quirk to assimilate societal rules instead of ridding the child of the quirk to fit societal norms. I am truly amazed, grateful, and pleased to be a Washington Elementary parent.

If you intend on sending your child to Charlotte schools, know this: -they do not teach phonics. -they teach fuzzy math (Everyday Math) which does NOT teach mastery of basic math facts. -they have a horrible spelling program -Sitton spelling. -no art in elementary and a very scattered and ineffective foreign language program (Spanish) (at the elem level) -The current administration and school board do not listen to parent concerns. 4th grade is now a part of the middle school -which has well over 1,100 students -they say 4th and 5th will be kept separate...don't believe them. There are a few positives though :) They have a great band program. Both elementary schools have some new playground equipment. Most of the teachers are great.
