My daughter is a first grader at Charleston and it is an excellent school! Very experienced teachers and staff who keep the school running smoothly. My daughter has learned so much! Lots of fun events for students and parents. The PTO is great too.

Two of my children started and completed elementary here and we never had any problems. My youngest is now in first grade and loves it as well. The teachers and staff make you feel like you are at home.

I wanted to follow up with the review below...After reviewing the issue of tardy students from a few days ago, I am more than happy with the outcome from the principal. She has taken the time to address the situation and provide feedback. This principal will be wonderful. Thank you very much, your parents and kids will appreciate you.

We are new to this area and took time trying to find the right schools for our children based on reviews, appearance and word of mouth. After 3 months of my child being enrolled in Charleston Elementary the first thing, which is not the schools fault, is the smell of the mill that is near the school. On certain days it is absolutely unbearable. Secondly, I would like it if there was a communication log letting parents know of areas that our child is struggling or in need of help, rather than when we would get interim reports. Now our child has 89 or above numbers in every area, but she is terribly struggling in math. Thirdly, was a situation that happened yesterday. The school has a drop off pattern that you have to wait in line in a horseshoe or half circle drive through. My child has not been tardy all year until yesterday, and we turned onto the road to go into the circle at 740am and school starts at 745, so 5 minutes early. It took 5 minutes to get into the circle and get my child dropped off and 2 minutes to get into the building to her classroom, which made her in at 747am and 2 minutes late. After speaking with the secretary and the principal I was told to just come in even earlier, that it is the policy. After speaking with the principal I asked that she address the situations on days where a mass amount of students are considered late by being backed up in the drive through, I will have a follow up review to state if anything was addressed or if they brushed me off.

Charleston Elementary is the best school! My husband is in the Army and we relocate quite often and after finding Charleston Elementary the children and I stayed in Charleston while my husband moved around. I have had 3 children go through this school. I have served as PTO president, treasurer and Vice President. I have always felt welcome by the entire school. The principal Jodie Grannan is wonderful and the teachers are fantastic! Please do not listen to the negative reviews, if you do, you will be missing out on a wonderful, and safe school!

I feel that Charleston is a wonderful school! Teachers know every child. They work hard to give students a great education, as well as love and attention. The test scores listed on this site are out of date. Charleston scored all A's last year and continue to improve!

The Head Start program held at The Charlston Elementry in Bradley County is a big disappointment. The Teachers are very disorganized. To start out, The Teacher could not tell me when the first day of class was (this was about two weeks before the county school were starting), The teacher did not have any handbooks on hand when she came out for the parent teacher meeting, first day of school came and still no handbook. It seemed like they were just running a daycare, did not teach anything to my child. The teacher and teacher aid did not keep a close eye on the childeren, my child got hurt everyday she was there. No accident reports were wrote up and they never bothered to call. One of the accidents was caused by the Teacher, she did not tell me about the accident. I heard about it from another child when i asked my child how her first day of school was. The teacher never appologized to my child for hurting her. The Charleston Elementary school is very run down school, old and dirty. when you walked into the school you could smell urian. I do not reamend anyone ever taking your child there for the pre k.

Cleanliness issues Teachers unprepared and disorganized Principal has little to no student and parent engagement School grounds in serious need of attention(for ex the rusting chainlink fence surrounding the playgrounds) Low test scores due to inadequate teachers Lack of routine, schedules,and teacher planning (ex. no syllabus,or lesson plans)
