The Excel program is and teachers are wonderful, however other areas need a lot of work.

Chandler Elementary prides itself in elevating reading and math scores for those students who may be lagging in those areas. They score very well in this area. My daughters 5th grade teacher in fact takes her own time after school to tutor her in math. She is interested in her understanding the material. She is also knowledgeable in ADD and continues to help her pay attention and communicate with me in her progresses or difficulties. That being said my son's 2nd grade experience is not satisfactory to us. Chandler does not seem to be concerned with children who excel past their grade levels. He is not offered challenging material or worksheets to promote continued learning for him. Their attitude so far has been he passes his grade level, so great nothing else is needed. They have an excel class each for the 4th and 5th grade. My son loves to learn, however he is so bored. They are mostly concerned with ISTEP tests being passed and following the CORE guidelines. Not, I believe, my son's learning. I tutor him in the lacking material at home.

Both of my children have attended Chandler Elementary and we have had a wonderful experience. I do not think the Great Schools rating accurately reflects the quality of this school. While test scores may play a role in ratings, it is important to remember that test scores are a result of many factors. Mrs. Henrich (the principal) and the majority of the staff we have encountered are clearly dedicated individuals who truly care about their students. I have always felt very good about sending my children to school as I am confident that their teachers care very much about them.

Chandler Elementary is a great school. I have 3 kids that have gone there & done very well middle school & high school.
