King open is a great school! My daughter first went to the school last year. I had to admit she wasn't so sure about it. Now she is doing distance learning and every day she is enjoying it! She has friends who except her for who she is and won't tease her because of glasses. She even came home with a present one of her friend's gave her. I'm shocked by the way the King Open community cares. The teachers and staff at King Open are the most loyal staff you could ever ask for! I know about all the work my daughter is doing because I'm getting informed about it. The staff constantly provide stuff for online-schooling. The only problem I have is my daughter who always gets bored around a computer. Other than that King Open is a wonderful school that deserves 5 stars. King open is also a Vibrant community full of diverse people! One day my daugther was telling me all about native american life and culture because they learn about it during class. I've never had any problems with this school and neither has my daugther. I think this school is amazing!

This is our daughter's first year at King Open, and we have had a great experience so far. Her teacher is warm and caring, she's made friends easily, and the school has good communication with parents and makes an active effort to outreach and involve parents in the schools. The school is diverse, with many international families who are in Cambridge due to affiliations with MIT and Harvard, and there is also significant racial and economic diversity. So far we are very pleased with the school, and so glad that we did not base our decision on the Great Schools numerical score. The Great Schools rating is primarily based on standardized test scores, which are one of the least important criteria in evaluating an elementary school.

My child has been attending King Open since 2013 and we have had a tremendously positive experience. This amazing school is a hidden gem with an engaged parent community. The school has dedicated teachers and a community spirit that fully embraces the social justice mission of the school. Principal Williams is an engaged and dedicated school leader with an open door policy for parents. I have met with him on several occasions and he is refreshingly open to feedback and welcomes new ideas and change in order to benefit students. My child is an advanced learner who has been supported in the classroom so that he is academically challenged. In February 2016 the school will move to the Longfellow School site on Broadway (Inman Sq area) which is an adorable brick schoolhouse building in a cute neighborhood. In 3 years we move back to the Cambridge St site to a brand new state of the art school designed by William Rawn Associates (who designed the main library). This site will have two separate schools- King Open in one building and Cambridge Street Upper School in another.
