I moved my family to Callao so specifically my kids could attend this school. It is small, safe, with many long-time teachers and the last administrator/principal was there for over a decade (and at the school in total 23 years!).

We moved here for the school for two of our kids at the time were in need of that personal attention only a small school can provide. They also had both dealt with bullying in the past, and although that is a problem in any school anywhere, there is extra effort here to try to minimize. We can testify it made a big difference in our kids being able to get through school better at graduation. Now that they have grown, our youngest attends there. He'd probably do fine in most other schools, but he really likes Callao, and they have put extra-effort into him. We are grateful.I have always been able to work with the teachers and principal/superintendent at Callao school through the good and bad, thick and thin. They are also cooperative with the local community in being made available and with other nearby businesses/organizations in cooperation as well. I'm grateful for this school.

The school has done nothing for the community. Actually has made our community smaller and more criminally acceptable. Students are asked to just show up! They may be given an adequate education but at our tax base adequate is not good enough. Students should excel when moving to high school but fall behind because high school is more than showing up for class!

I am a retired teacher who taught at Callao C8 for ten years. 2003-2014. This school is exemplary in the education it provides for its students. The teachers are highly qualified and take a huge interest in their students. The curriculum is challenging with high expectations. The school climate is like a big family. The older students take care of the younger ones. Students treat each other with respect. IMrs. Halstead, the administrator, is a visionary and leads the teachers and students with a positivity that defies description. I give a huge high five to Callao C8.
