- Submitted by teacher on August 11, 2013On June 21, 2013, the faculty and staff stood outside waving good bye to the bus loads of children from Build Academy as they left for their summer vacation. I wondered what positive new experiences the children would encounter in the next two months to help them build self reliance, resilience and strength to propel these beautiful children to success. Most of the children come from poverty and Build's teachers and staff are often found fighting for precious resources to do their jobs to boost student success and cultivate the children's abilities and skills. What makes the Build Academy children's smiles and hugs so prevalent? Why should Build win the $5,000.00? The answer to that is the dedicated administration, teachers, and staff's belief that the children are our future and we can make all the difference. For the past two years, my teaching duties were split between two schools. I came to know first hand about the two tier education that exists in Buffalo-the one school who has it all and the other that does not. I asked for full time duty at Build for the 2013-14 school year because I believe that Build just as the Phoenix can rise again and be the great school it was.

Our students are a unique group of diverse learners and with the use of instructional strategies we will meet their needs.
