My child is in G&T which is white and Asian and lacking in any other diversity but I don’t think that is the school’s fault. I hate that, but again I don’t think that is PS 282 I think that is the old G&T system. so I have a particular viewpoint but lack of diversity in G&T aside im very happy at 282 so far. I’ve been impressed by Ms. Rodriguez’s leadership throughout the pandemic and so far my daughter’s teachers (prior to G&T and in G&T) have been truly amazing. The after school activity Tiny Scientist is the BEST and at 6 my daughter is leaning Spanish and loves to go to school every day.

Enthusiastic thumbs up. All I wanted out of kindergarten was for my son to like school, and think learning was fun. Check and check, but he's also learned so much and become much more independent. He learned to read in his class and is tearing through books, and he can write whole paragraphs. It's kind of shocking. I've also loved his teachers, the school community, and the many, many supplementary classes the school offers him - gym, technology, dance, science, music, art, Spanish.

We are local parents who love 282. The culture has undergone a dramatic change since Mr Hoke took over. He is a great leader who cares about his student, parents and teachers. Anyone would be lucky to get a seat at 282

This school is terrible. There is no support for students academically. Bullying is rampant & teachers do nothing. Lunches are inedible, my child comes home having not eaten on a consistent basis.

High marks! We fought to get into this school because it was our favorite tour and we felt the most comfortable with the parent community. It has met all of our expectations. We love 282 - it is Brooklyn’s best kept secret and keeps getting better.

We could not be happier with the preK program! The teachers are knowledgeable and there is great communication with parents. The PTO is active and parents play an active role.

We LOVE 282. We are local parents who heard all the negative rumors that were a result of the old principal and administraton. Under Mr Hoke the school is flourishing and we see the change before our eyes as local park slopers are buying in and enjoying being a part of this community.Also the middle school is phasing out. This is the final year of 6th grade and in 2 years those kids will finish 8th grade and the middle school will be completely gone. This will allow for more room for elementary student and more resources for these kids.The DOE decided to phase out the middle school because they know there is a surge of elementary age kids in the district and we will need the space. In a couple years we will be at capacity and a destination school so get in ow while you can!

My son is now in his second year at PS 282. He is extremely happy to go to school each day and definitely feels part of a community. I love the small feel of the school and how you easily get to know all of the kids in your child's grade or after school programs. There are many activities outside of school to take part in, and we especially love the monthly movie nights and Spooktacular Halloween party. I also love that my son has been exposed to Chess, and now has grown to love it. The administration is receptive to feedback from families and take all input / suggestions seriously. I would highly recommend checking out this school!

My son is in his 3rd year at 282 and we're so glad he's a part of this school! His teachers are engaged, dedicated, and supported by the administration. The school truly welcomes parent and family involvement in a way that I haven't seen at other schools. I feel valued as a member of the community and I know my son is valued as an individual and student. He has consistently made great academic and social-emotional progress, largely thanks to the caring and innovative teachers he encounters every day. 282 is a bit of a hidden gem, just around the corner from other well-known schools like 321. Test scores are up and rising, staff retention has increased, the school is an excellent option for families. The perception that 282 is "turning around" is a bit off-base, as the school is solidly already moving the needles and progress is steady.

My son started at PS282 in K last year. Although this is only our second year at the school we have already been swept up into the community with volunteering efforts in the school gardens, movie nights, and special events like Spooktacular and Spring Benefit. The parents you meet are friendly and warm. My son went in last year not knowing how to read and write and is now advanced for his age. I credit the schools strong commitment to the core curriculum of reading and writing but also for inspiring him him to learn through enrichment such as chess, technology, and creative movement. My child looks forward to school every day. The teachers and the staff are nurturing and encouraging people who inspire the kids to have self-confidence and treat each other with respect.

We have had an excellent experience with PS 282 with our son who started in K last year. Truly surpassed all our expectations. We were so happy with the school that we sent our daughter there also this year, in Pre-K, which she loves! The PTO are very helpful and active and all the parents I meet always seem so happy. I was very impressed, even in the first couple of weeks, with how much my son was learning. My daughter is also learning a lot and enjoys telling us about her day. They both love going to school, they look forward to it! You know you did something right when you tick all these boxes. We are very settled here, thank you PS 282! A special acknowledgment for Principal Hoke, who has fantastic vision and succeeded in transforming this school.

PS 282 is a great school with a truly diverse community and an inspiring principal. It's been overlooked by Park Slope for DECADES (and its enrollment/funding reflect that, unfortunately) but my son has had a wonderful experience. He has thrived both emotionally and academically and we have found the parents, teachers, and staff to be warm, creative, and dedicated.

My son joined K in Sept and I have been thrilled - with the school, my sons progression, his teacher, the principal and PTO. I was skeptical but I liked what I saw on the tours in terms of facilities and curriculum, so went with my gut and I'm so glad I did. My son is super happy every day when I pick him up, he talks non-stop about his day, what he's learnt (I heard v little when he was in pre-k so this pleases me no end!) and his learning is exceptional. He schooled me on racial equality and the role MLK had in changing it (I was literally floored). He learned to read within 6 weeks (and is reading complicated words pretty smoothly now) is obsessed with Math and is using math skills with everyday problems. Hands up, I do very little teaching outside of school so I'm really pleased he's getting such a great rounded education, with the extra's such as music, gym and language on the card for 2017/2018.What has stood out for me is the progressive nature of the principal (love Principal Hoke, a very available, approachable and passionate principal), the ability to impact how the school operates (suggestions we made as K parents in the early days were implemented immediately or plans were put in place to address them), and a lovely diverse, open-minded community of parents and children, reflective of Park Slope. For me it's been a complete win and a bit of an undiscovered gem in our neighborhood.

This is the third year my son is attending the school, under its new Principal. He's brought fantastic changes to the school - my kid is learning at a rapid pace and having so much fun doing it. The teachers are caring and great, my son has made a really great group of diverse friends. The Principals focus on progressive teaching techniques really shows in the interesting projects the class is doing for science, literature, math, and the test scores have become one of the better schools in the district. I'd recommend to any parent who wants a really good well-rounded education. It's not a specialized science or music school or anything.

The school has skyrocketed to the top in the last two years. We were apprehensive at first but the new Principal and staff are amazing. The schools test scores and extra curricular activities have also improved tremendously. Our son in in the rigorous G&T program and is flourishing. The only issue is the kids who hang out after school in the park unattended. They curse and fight each other but that's more of a parenting problem.

This school is on the way up. The new administration has made it clear that this is a new day and has done a lot to include parents in the life of the school. The new Principal is open minded, progressive, and smart. Regaining the trust of parents and staff is high on his agenda and already there are signs of a new openness, and a desire to make this District 13 school one of the best. The new PTO has mostly new members from the communities that the school serves the most and bring a wealth of experiences and ideas. From maintaining the schools Arts & Technology offerings, distinguishing the G&T Program, to making to Middle School a top choice, in the district, 282 is on the way up. My child has a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

This school has done nothing but decline over the past 7 years. From the racial tensions amongst parents to the problems w the principal to the PTO that segregates itself from the rest of the parent body, this school needs a lot of work. Nothing has changed for the better, it has gotten progressively worse and this year in particular is starting off to the one of the worst of all. You have new administration who is just as bad as the former. Children's recess already taken away in only the first few weeks. More rules than caring. Parents who are either not involved at all or just a select few who just hover around all day making more issues than solutions. Shame because this school was starting to have promise. Not anmymore with this new admin AND parents who cause too many problems instead of working to find solutions

Love this school and it's diversity...my kids have been very happy at 282 for 6 years and as long as they are happy, mommy is happy! There are many involved parents who do their best each and every day to ge this school from good to great!!!

The Park Slope School has such wonderful enrichment programs for the students. I'm shocked.that the locals attend such an overcrowded school up the road, when 282 has everything a child needs to develop and flourish. Oh, and their G&T program? Awesome!
