School selection can be a hit or miss situation. Our family feels MS 936, Arts off 3rd was a huge hit for us. Our Granddaughter is in the 7th Grade and her second year at the school. All the teachers she has had to date have all been dedicated professionals. Several of her teachers also lead the after school clubs she participate in. The school would be an excellent choice for an aspiring artist and also for those wanting a place where academics takes center stage. As family supporting our student we greatly appreciate how easily and willing the teachers, school office staff and administration make themselves open to communicate with us. We feel the school will be getting better with new Principal, Mr. Proudfoot. In a few Months he is with purposeful leadership making a good school and staff better.

Our son is finishing up his final year at Arts Off 3rd. In that time, he has participated in an award winning Virtual Enterprise project that designed a business, he has joined a co-ed group of kids from all grades and classes on the soccer team, he is currently enrolled in three Regents classes, and he got into his top choice high school (in visual art). All this was--and can only be--done with the guidance of a AO3s committed faculty, who put in the work and give of themselves. Recent uncertainty with a change in administration has ended with a great new addition to the school community. Principal Proudfoot has come with good ideas to engage families and a commitment to do right by kids. To be honest, we weren't 100% sure what we were getting when we applied to AO3--at the time a new school--but we couldn't be happier as our son exits it.

I'm an 8th grader at Ms 936 and I have had a very good experience at this school, the teachers are phenomenal and support you in any way they can. I'm currently in the dance program and it is very well run and i have gained many opportunities from it. The after school programs are very beneficial and fun and it is worthwhile looking into this school.

My daughter will be graduating this year ( 2nd graduating class of the school) and it has been nothing short of an amazing experience for her! The only negative is she will only get a short few months with the new principal, who in less then 2 months, has already made a huge positive mark on this already fantastic & overly talented school! If you live in D20 DO NOT overlook this middle school! The talent in this school surpasses that of other well known middle schools.

This school has been amazing for my daughter! She is engaged, has developed a love for drama (the good kind on the stage), and is very happy for a middle schooler. The administration and teachers are wonderful, and the new principal has already implemented positive change!Art is weaved into the curriculum, and there are may opportunities to perform ad showcase your artistic talents. Highly recommend!

I’m excited about the new principal. In a few months he’s brought in great changes such as more frequent communication, listening sessions etc. The teachers show great care. I love the VE program, 3rd Avenue Players and Student Council. Through these activities my daughter has blossomed and has become less shy. I love the kids in her class.

This is our daughter's second year here and she loves this school! And we love the teachers! They really care - and keep in constant contact on her progress - and help navigate any needed changes. I love that the arts are valued here. I love that the administration is mindful and progressive. I think this school - through the arts - bridges a gap between neighborhoods and cultures. Highly recommended!!!

This is a great school. Students study Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts, while getting a top notch academic education. The students are smart and talented, and the teachers are dedicated and care about students and their family.
