This school has a discipline problem. My child routinely comes home telling me about children who are acting out and nothing is done to punish their behavior. She's in 4th grade and says it's distracting to her but nothing is done to punish the student. We are car riders and we never see the administrators outside at drop off or pick-up. My daughter says she never sees them around the building either. I have children at Woodland Middle and Ravenwood and it's a much different situation. I hope that the administration at Sunset starts to handle these behaviors and become more involved, vs. just wait to pass these kids off to the next school.

Sunset Elementary receives glowing reviews from the those with little perspective beyond the bubble that is middle Tennessee. SES seems to be no better or worse than other schools within the WCS district and the district is among the best in the state of Tennessee. However, this is analogous to saying you have the best house in a bad neighborhood. We moved to Tennessee from Florida and found the WCS curriculum to be a solid year behind Broward County. In addition, the bi-lingual program is virtually non-existent in WCS schools. After 4 years in Tennessee, we have again moved out of state and the new out-of-state curriculum has confirmed our concerns with WCS schools: Our son is behind with respect to language, social studies, and science. The WCS district is focused on test scores and not on education at the elementary school level. If you want your child to have a solid academic core with an understanding of science and civics, my advice is supplement the WCS curriculum with home schooling. We did that for our final year in the WCS district and it has softened the impact of moving to a new school district with a more advanced curriculum. My only regret looking back was not believing the Great Schools ranking and not starting supplemental learning sooner. I should have also maintained his basic proficiency with Spanish as I am now realizing how common it is for schools to offer bi-lingual reading in elementary school. Hopefully these comments are helpful to others whom tend to move from state to state.

We love SES!!! My daughter has been here for 3 years now and has never complained about attending school. She has lots of friends and love her teachers! Academically, it is very good and with reason it is rated 10 out of 10!

The teachers are very nurturing at Sunset. The principal is involved. I especially enjoy the family oriented activities. This school is a solid 10! My children are thriving and score above average on all standardized tests.

I have just received my son's 3rd grade approved snack list from Sunset Elementary. Pretzels-Rold Gold brand only, Popcorn Bachman brand only, Fruit snacks- Betty Crocker brand only, all other brands are prohibited.Sunset Elementary is in violation of the definition of freedom, " the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action". We are in the 21st century and living in the USA, let's stop this nonsense

I see that the last post is from 2010! Sunset Elementary is better than ever! Our administrative staff is absolutely incredible. Our teachers are fabulous! We have high standards. Kids know what's expected out of them at school. Teachers are 100% dedicated and focused on the students. 4-5th Grade teachers work hard to get the students ready for Sunset Middle School! I absolutely love our Stallions our SES!
