I have two sons, one who graduated and one who is currently attending Mater Dei. My oldest had a very positive experience during his four years. The curriculum is challenging, and the students are very bright. If memory serves me, there were 14 valedictorians, with 12 of them being Illinois scholars in the last graduating class. The combination of the teachers commitment and parental involvement make it a great school to attend. Give it a look and have your child "shadow" a student for a day.

The math and science departments are top-notch, even though not a lot of AP credit is offered. The truth is that AP credit often does not transfer, but a sound education will allow your child to advance quickly thorough university programs. The social studies and history classes are a joke, but the English department does a lot to challenge students. Having a diverse population of students who are "college prep" vs. "vocational training" makes it a great learning environment (although sometimes difficult because of the different world-views). The arts and music programs have a history of excellence, and it's that expectation that continues to propel them. This school is large enough that it's known regionally, but small enough that students get to know each classmate and teacher.
