I have taught in two colleges and many high schools. I have substitute taught at Brainerd high school for seven years for all classes. The administration and staff are very good. They are careful to keep religion and politics out of the curriculum. The balance between college prep and technical education is excellent. I highly recommend this school.

I have substituted as a Teacher for all departments in the high school for five years. Prior to moving to Brainerd, I taught in two colleges and many Twin Cities middle and high schools.Brainerd has good administration, good Teachers, and generally good behavior comparable to some of the suburban schools that I have taught in.

Every child is allowed to fail without teachers or administration intervention. It seems as if no one cares about poor grades except the parents. When failing grades are addressed, they are quick to make you feel like a nuisance. A child spends most of their waking hours in a school building. once a child leaves school, a parent has very little control over how to pick up the pieces of a failing system. I don't think this school does a very good job at preparing children for the real world. The real world holds you accountable at your job. If you don't do your job in the real world, there are immediate consequences. If you don't do your job in school there are no consequences except for a bad grade that is very difficult to make up. There are very few inspiring teachers in the entire school. it seems everyone pays attention to the very good students... The easy ones... And leave the quiet confused ones in the dark... It seems to be easier that way for all of them. There are so many good kids that are doing below average....and apparently.... that is acceptable. Brainerd High School is not a great school.

I graduated from Brainerd in 2009 and I now attend Concordia College. I miss the Brainerd Area and the Brainerd High school. The students and staff were great, I learned alot but it was still such a laid back atmosphere. I am going into Biology Secondary Education and I hope I can find a School as great as Brainerd to teach at.
