The Principal and staff are attentive, available and genuine. Special needs programs are the best there is. Curriculum is wonderful, test scores are impressive and my child is testing 2 grades higher than last year. The new Principal has really made positive changes and created an environment comfortable enough to do learn in. Best school in the district.

The school has few resources and is not well equipped to deal with children who have learning differences. The campus is poorly secured, entrances that should be locked are often standing open, the main entrance is often unlocked and staff doesn't notice if someone walks past them.After school care consists of children sitting in the lunch room playing with blocks.Lunches are bussed in by an outside company and consist of highly processed foods.The library is small and poorly funded. There is no foreign language taught.The district has a wonderful healthy foods policy, but it isn't applied to the classroom. In spite of asking teachers not to feed my child junk food, they still do. One day, my child was allowed to consume so many sugary treats in class that he vomited when he arrived home. When I confronted the teacher, she shrugged and said she had no control over it.

My experience at LaVasseur was not great. We had difficulty connecting with principal and teachers.
