This school is perfect if you have a cookie cutter child. Unfortunately my daughter has both medical and mental problems and this school was too busy enforcing a no candy policy to help her. Some of the teachers are amazing but the principal and a few other support staff members made my daughters 2 years in this school a nightmare. I have thankfully moved her and are dealing with that situation privately with BPS but please just pay attention if you see something off it’s because it is.

Our son has been at the Winship since K-1 and is now in K-2 this year. We are quite impressed with all he has learned in Kindergarten these past few months. He really loves learning at the Winship! He now reads fluently at almost 1st grade level and his math skills are developing very fast as well.We are very impressed by the teachers at the school, the support they provide to our son and the structure around the school.We also love the partnerships that the school has through Playworks, Urban Voice, City Sprouts, the Oak SquareYMCA for the after-school program. One example: Urban Voice organized a concert back in December in a local church on Washington St. It was such an amazing event and our son was really thrilled by this opportunity to perform with his peers and friends. Thanks to the Winship School, we are also able to bond with other parents and we are extremely satisfied to be part of this community. We built very meaningful relationships and are able to lean on one another to discuss how to make the Wisnhip experience the best for our children. We love the Winship and are so happy we decided to register our son to this school!

I feel so lucky as a parent to be part of Winship. My son is in K2, and has adapted to his school so much faster and easier than I thought. He loves his teachers and his friends so much.I think Winship is a great school. I am also very pleased with his progress. Thank you so much Winship.

Our son started K2 at the Winship this year and we are so impressed with all he has learned in just a few months. He is thriving at Winship! His reading and math skills are improving every day. We are so impressed with all of the teachers and staff at Winship. The partnerships at Winship provide even more ways for students to learn and thrive. Our son loves Playworks, Urban Voices, City Sprouts, and the afterschool program run by the Oak Square YMCA! In addition, Winship has a very active and supportive community of parents. We have formed great friendships with the other parents! We researched both public and private schools for years before choosing the Winship, and we are so glad we chose it!

FYI most of our students qualify for Advanced Work Classes so they leave the school starting in 3rd grade. This is why our MCAS scores seem lower. It's also important to clarify that last year our students did much better on the MCAS but BPS decided to not publish 2016-17 scores for all schools. This is why you can only find data from 2015-16 which was understandably lower since there was a change with school leadership around that time.

We had heard only good things about Winship and its teachers from our neighbors and that's when we decided to have our daughter attend kindergarten here. We were excited when we got through the BPS lottery and our experience has only been positive since. The teachers she has had are just wonderful people, dedicated to the profession and to their students. They have made learning a fun and engaging experience. Besides the classroom she is able to engage a multitude of extra-curricular activities - like Playworks, BOKS, Read-Alongs, GirlScouts etc. Additionally we have found a really diverse community of students and parents which has exposed our child to a variety of experiences and cultures. The parent engagement is also very strong. Overall we are really happy with our choice.

Our family loves everything from the great specialists in science and library, to the community of families, and great classroom teachers. Our kids have been accepted into the BPS AWC classes starting in fourth grade, and we opted out and thank the Winship teachers for the rigorous curriculum to keep them challenged. We also love having playworks which encourages our children to be strong leaders.

During the school search for our son, we were nervous about the low test scores and ratings of the Winship. However, we took a chance with the school and it has exceeded our expectations. After six months, we understand that much of the ratings are driven by BPS system issues that do not reflect the excellent education the principal and teachers are providing to their students. We have found the Winship to be an exceptional blend of diversity, educational excellence, and community. I highly recommend that anyone who is concerned about the ratings to visit the school, meet current families, and join the Winship community.

I have one child in K2 and I LOVE the Winship! His progress in literacy since the beginning of the year is impressive. His social progress has been even better. My son is shy and I was concerned about how he would feel in a full size class. I have been amazed to see how he is thriving and growing. This year my son has come into his own and that is because of the stimulating, safe, and encouraging environment at the Winship. The K2 team of Ms. Barros, Ms Frazier, and Ms Brenda is outstanding!Mr Nohl and the school library are great! My son has a book he is excited to read every night.Winship has an active School Parent Council and great programs. This year we have already had the Winship Feast (celebrate Thanksgiving at school teachers, kids, and parents)) and a concert with Urban Voices where over 300 parents and friends watched our kids sing.I visited all of our public school options and after getting a tour from the City Connects Coordinator Ms Walls, I had no doubt that the Winship was right for us. The entire year has been confirmation that this is a great school!

We didn't know much about the school before our son started there. We chose the school based on its proximity to our house & that it was fairly small in size. Now after just three months, we really love this school & wish we didn't have to leave (we are here only for a short time due to work commitments). The school is safe, well resourced, has the most friendliest, helpful & cheerful staff. It is the best environment you can hope to give your child especially during the early years in order to set them up well for the future. Our son loves going to school & really enjoys the environment, even the learning is fun!

This is our first year. My son started in K-1 and we are loving how involved the teachers allow parents to be in our kids daily activities and the opportunity to help when it's needed. It has a very active parent council and we felt very welcomed to the Winship Community. The Principal has always been available to talk when we needed as well as all the staff members. It truly is a hidden gem.

Great school, especialy for families with special needs. Caring and dedicated educators and caregivers. Children are always priority. Special needs and Advanced students get the time and attention they deserve.
