This is a fantastic school that offers a lot for my children and their classes are very engaging. Their athletic programs provide much for the development for our kids. The STEM program especially helped my 2 sons grow up to be young successful men. Thank you Berthoud!

So far I’m highly dissatisfied at the learning environment with my teen’s peers.

Our neighbors just graduated their second child from Berthoud High School. They speak of the school very highly. He has grown up to be a very fine young man. Our children will not be in High School for 4 more years. We love the small town feeling with high standards.

BHS is a very math and science oriented school. A student there can really excell if they take the initiative. No, the staff doesn't coddle the kids. They are expected to do there work and research post-secondary options for themselves. Your child will easily fall behind here if they're not motivated because there simply isn't enough staff to cater to the lazy. The academic opportunity is endless, but our sports programs are as successful. Students put forth their best effort but it isn't as big as the other schools we play and we lack diversity. Most of the staff is amazing but there are a few substandard teachers. But overall, I would highly suggest this school to anyone in the area.

We made the biggest mistake when we moved our grandson from Loveland high school to Berthoud High school. The clickiness of the students is horrible---definite devisions in social status. Teachers show huge favoritism to students that are long time residents of the town. MUSIC DEPARTMENT is disappointing to say the least. If a child needs help, they would just as soon they leave the school than stay. Very depressed school is the overall feeling. They say no bullying? What about the upper echelon kids that simply make fun of others? HUGE MIISTAKE ON OUR PART

Berthoud is a great school that is relatively small. Their performance is the best in the district and in the top tier of the state. The staff is responsive and there are a lot of opportunities that students can take advantage of at the school. Ask the right questions and advocate. Most of the teachers are very good and the staff continues to improve with the changes in staff that have been made over the last few years.

My child attended this school all four years of high school. He liked it for various things such as teachers who connect with kids (for the most part) and the small size it offers. There are problems within the school that may seem amplified possibly because it is a small school so problems seem more prevalent. You have your athletic kids, smart kids, cowboys, party crowd, etc. Each group of kids is clearly defined! There is a sense of community but beware that outsiders are generally not included. Some of the sports excel, but most cannot compete at the levels needed to be successful. Leadership of the school is less than desired. The principal and several staff cannot lead by example in a positive way when they exhibit personal decisions such as extra-marital affairs within the community and all the students are aware of it. It is the best academic high school in this pathetic district but be warned that the environment of this school is not for everyone.

Great school, great staff, great counselors, great principal. Love the small town feeling here, and how everyone knows everyone. There doesn't seem to be as many of the drama issues at BHS as there are at other schools.

Everything that has been posted here about poor academics, excessive drug use, and bad counselors is simply not true anymore. The academic program is rigorous and hands-on in many classes. Students pay for the AP textbooks because the school district does not have enough money. If a teacher hears of financial hardship caused by situations like this, they find a way to get the student what they need within their means. There is some drug use at this school, as with most schools, but as a student I find it very easy to stay out of those circles. There are no gang problems. Students who struggle can set up an appointment in the counseling office with any one of the counselors and can choose to speak with a peer support counselor (a senior who is chosen and trained in confidentiality, listening, and problem-solving). Unfortunately, there is little racial and religious diversity at this school, but both students and teachers accept all types of students. There are a number of great clubs and athletic teams to join. Out of all the schools in this school district, I would happily argue that Berthoud High School is the best in balancing opportunity with community.
