I highly recommend Post Oak. I have had a wonderful experience there with three children across Young Children’s Community, Primary, and Elementary. The teachers are excellent. The way they apply the Montessori method and prepared environment is outstanding. The classroom communities foster an independence, confidence, and creativity in the kids.

If you don’t mind the bias that goes on at this school towards big donor families then continue to apply to get in. If you don’t mind paying tuition and not getting the teaching that your child should be getting, then it’s the school for you. The teacher did nothing for my child to get the reading skills he needed in first grade and to be ready for second. When we questioned the teacher choked it up to the possibility of a learning disability. Test clearly showed it’s wrong and it’s due to lack of skills to read. If you are not a high donor at this school, your child will not get the attention he/she needs. Two weeks of reading tutor and my child read more than he did the entire year under his teacher’s care.

We have been at Post Oak going on 6 years now. Our two children have thrived in the emotionally nurturing and academically rigorous environment. I think what sets the rigor apart from more traditional education methods is that my children don't even realize that what they are learning and carrying out would be very challenging by grade level norms. One of our children was doing multiplication during his kindergarten year, and it's not just memorize and go. It's truly a hands-on, learning the "why" of multiplication. It's a deep and meaningful connection to their work. Our other child consistently scores in the 99th% in Reading and Math during yearly MAP testing. As a parent, I appreciate that my kids aren't bogged down in nightly homework, leaving time for them to pursue outside interests. The Montessori approach requires a level of trust in the process and that can be very challenging at times, there aren't grades dolled out in the elementary level. But what I do witness is my children LOVE going to school. When school ends for the summer and most kids jump for joy, mine would gladly keep on going. The friendships they have formed are with children that all "get" each other, and find enjoyment in creating 10 page long division problems, researching and report writing to statisfy something they are curious about, talking about the latest book they read and how awesome it is, or having an intense battle in the GaGa Ball pit at recess. The challenge I forsee for Post Oak is ensuring they maintain and recruit highly qualified lead teachers. AMI or AMS Trained Montessori teachers are becoming harder and harder to find as more people are leaving the teaching profession. The head of school is doing a good job of recruiting new guides as the need arises, but as teachers come and go, it leaves a little bit of anxiety in the hearts of parents, us included.

We had a horrible experience at this school that left us, and more importantly, our child never wanting to go back to The Post Oak school ever! Our child was physically and mentally bullied by the other students in her class. She would come home telling us all kinds of horror stories. We tried to talk to the teacher about it and she was so stubborn and didn’t want to listen or help with the situation. She said that she didn’t see or know if anything that my child was telling us had happened....? Therefore, we starting communicating with the school director who told us that she has a lot to deal with and didn’t give us the time of day. So, we took our child out of the school but they are still making us pay for the whole year tuition because they have a year long contract. So I just want to worn other new families to this school. Had we listened to all the red flags before sending our child to, what we thought, was a good Montessori education, we would have chose a different option. Very disappointing and hurtful first Elementary year of school for our child. She went to a preschool co-op the year before and loved it!!

Our entire family would give the school 5 Stars! My children beg to go to school every day and are happy when they come home to share their experiences. It is a common occurrence in our home have a look of shock on our faces when our children tell us random bits of information that they have learned and we would never believe a 5 and 3 year old could retain that information. The education they are receiving is like none other, but more importantly, the confidence, independence, love, and empathy are invaluable.

I would rate the school experience as excellent. Again, no school is perfect; it's made up of people, after all! But the Post Oak School seeks to live its vision and mission every day and work on being the best school it can be.

It is disappointing to see how the school has declined over the years. They need to hire faculty with better qualifications.

World-class Montessori education. Post Oak provides the perfect foundation for the development of a well-rounded, intellectually-curious, self-reliant child. three kids, 16, 14, 11. been at school for 10 yrs. the main thing is that the kids love the school. after 10 yrs, the primary reasons i see that families leave is not the kids. parents need the reassurance of quizzes, testing, homework, grades, GPAs. this is not a judgmental thing - it's hard for any parent to just believe without the reassurance of constant testing. for us, it's easier when you see POS kids outside of school. there's definitely a difference. they're not focused on just getting kids into high school or college, although the results show they all get to go where they want. they're raising humans to be adaptable, independent, emotionally intelligent, and curious adults. i'd recommend going to an alumni night. You see adults in their 20s, 30s, even 40s all doing amazing things. really remarkable adult humans, and they all talk about how post oak shaped them to be who they are, and for us that is pretty convincing.

Rudest staff ever. Still can't get over how unbelievably rude the lady handling admissions was! She literally screamed at me because I called her on the phone to enquire about available spots in their pre-k program. I would be too scared to send a little child to this school.

After going through a time-consuming application process, we were told that only one, yes ONE, student that was a non-sibling was accepted into the full-time daycare YCC program. From the orientation and tour, they made it seem like half the students that got accepted were siblings while the other half were not. If we had known that there would only be ONE spot available, we definitely would not have wasted our time or money. We feel a little cheated. Just wanted to give other parents a heads up before applying your child here. I really don't know how non-siblings ever get into this school.

Our children attend Post Oak School. The practical life skills they learned from Post Oak alone make the steep tuition worthwhile. At 18 months our first child was toilet trained, got and served herself her own snacks, cleared her plates, learned to work in a group setting with others, etc. It's all been pretty amazing. Our eldest is in a class with 3 - 5 year olds. The 5 year olds are doing long division. !! Great school. Great parents. Very happy as are our children.

The new high school is awesome! They are blocks away from some of the best museums in the country (Modern Art, Natural Science, etc) and the school takes full advantage of it. They cost more than other schools, but we are so glad we made the investment.
