St. James is an incredible school where I have seen my children grow in mind, body, and spirit. The school was great when we arrived many years ago and unbelievably it has only gotten better with the new administration. This school truly helps each child grow into the best version of themselves in such a kind and loving environment.

St. James is a kind and loving school that challenges the students to be the best they can be in the classroom and as citizens of the world. Everything about St. James is great. We could not be happier with St. James.

Can't say enough great things about St. James. Everything from the faculty and staff to the academics and technology is truly top notch. Our children are excited about going to school each day, and they come home happy. Knowing they are constantly being challenged academically, while in a safe and nurturing environment, is a great feeling as a parent!

We are extremely pleased with our experiences at St. James Episcopal Day School. Our children have grown in so many ways in their warm, nurturing environment.

"There are so many aspects of St. James Episcopal Day School that we love, but most important is the challenging academic environment intertwined with religion, and the outpouring of love and support shown by the staff and administration. The staff and administration welcomes and encourages parents and guests to be a part of their child’s experience at St. James Episcopal Day School by attending church, classroom events, special occasions and many celebrations. The small, intimate and safe classroom setting is the ideal environment for our children to thrive and engage with learning."

When I moved to Baton Rouge, I did not understand why public school was not an option. Where I grew up the public schools were great and paying money for school was not necessary. When it was time to choose a school for my oldest, we started the search and I realized that private school was the only option for us in Baton Rouge. We looked a several places but kept hearing about St. James. After a visit to the school, I had no doubt in my mind that this was the place for us. After 5 years at St. James, this school has not disappointed me at all! It is the perfect balance of loving-kindness and intense learning. Both of my boys are reading well above their grade levels and excelling in other areas as well. They both have loved each and every teacher. The culture among the children (even the different grades) is supportive and kind. I could not be happier with our choice and although I did not know what I was missing in public school as a child, I am so thankful that my children are getting so much more than I ever did.

My child started at St. James in Pre-K. St. James did not prepare the child to compete academically with peers at other schools. When I was moving away, my child completed admissions testing at several schools who all reported their students, in the same grade, were significantly ahead of St. James curriculum for said grade. St. James was going through changes administratively, during the latter years my child attended. Apparently these ongoing changes were negatively impacting the quality of education my child was receiving. I learned while it sounds really good for lower elementary children to use iPads as part of their daily academic instruction, during the years of formative phonetic and writing development, features such as auto corrected spelling and auto suggestions for sentence revision impair the students ability to naturally learn to create drafts and revisions. Additionally, they do not truly teach Singapore math, as advertised, and foreign language is not integrated as child is only exposed for 30 minutes one time per week. I would not recommend this school to coworkers relocating to the Baton Rouge area at this time.

St. James offers a nurturing Christian environment while providing a superior education. Not only are the students happy to go to school every day, they look forward to what they will learn next. Because the class sizes are small, the teachers are able to recognize the students strengths and weaknesses and help them along to be successful.

My husband and I spent countless hours interviewing and touring every reputable school in the Baton Rouge area (some of them multiple times) before choosing to send our child to St. James. We ultimately decided upon this gem of a school because St. James was the only school in Baton Rouge with resource teachers available to work individually or in small groups with children (as early as Pre-K) who are academically gifted or accelerated (with no additional fee for these services.) We also love the warm, loving, fun environment and the highly experienced teachers. In addition, the administration has an open door and has always listened and responded to any concerns or ideas we have had, which is something you may not find at other schools. Also, if the fact that St. James is downtown discourages you, try the commute one day. Since it’s right off the interstate, the commute may actually be shorter than some schools that are not as close to I-10. We used to drive to St. James all the way from Ascension Parish, and I never had a second thought about sending my children anywhere else! We love this school!

I could not be happier with the decision that we made to send our children to St. James Episcopal Day School. The school fosters a notably nourishing environment that promotes excitement about learning. As a parent, it is very reassuring when you drop your kindergartener off at school, and the faculty greets her by her name. In a word, our experience has been exceptional.

St. James Episcopal Day School is the best private elementary school Baton Rouge has to offer! It is the only private elementary school to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School not once, but twice in back-to-back awards. The school has great expectations of its students, and provides ample opportunity for their success. The teachers at SJEDS are well-qualified and challenge their students daily with the coursework, both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to this outstanding education, the teachers are compassionate, encouraging and supportive of each and every student. The administration is welcoming, approachable and responsive to parents’ concerns. Our children are thriving at St. James, are excited about going to school and have shown true growth both academically and spiritually through the efforts of the faculty, staff and administration at St. James Episcopal Day School.

I would give St. James six stars if it were an option. The teachers truly care about the children and their learning. I am forever grateful for the educational foundation that St. James has given both of my children.

One visit to this jewel of a campus says it all. One is immediately overwhelmed by the warm, loving educational environment where the administration is professional and passionate regarding the school's mission of superior academic achievement in a compassionate Christian setting. This child-centered approach welcomes parents as partners in the learning process, and utilizes technology to say on the cusp of modern teaching techniques. And results don't lie. I rest easy knowing my child is attending a school that is a back to back winner of the National Blue Ribbon for Academic Excellence. Simply put, this is a great school, with great staff, and great kids. I am so glad we found it.

St. James Episcopal Day School is undoubtedly one of the best elementary schools in Baton Rouge! The faculty's experience and knowledge is evidenced by the students' positive attitudes and high test scores, within a very challenging curriculum. The administration strives to keep class size small, and place each child with the teacher that matches their learning style, to ensure each child's needs are met! Academic education is enhanced by the religious instruction and guidance counseling included in the curriculum. Enrichment classes such as science, computer technology, Spanish, physical education, art, music, and broadcast studio are also integral parts of each week, from PreK through 5th grade. And...the school and church are always working together to continually improve upon the school's curriculum! Most importantly, our son has made some exceptional friends, as have we, in getting to know the other parents through the years! Children today meet with such high demands from education, at a very rapid pace, but when they are happy and comfortable at school, the challenges aren't so overwhelming! We've found everything we needed for our son's education at St. James, and hope to find a school as outstanding when it's time to enter middle school!

St. James is the sweetest, most caring school in Baton Rouge. The teachers and staff are excellent. Our entire family feels part of the school and the community. St. James has far exceeded our expectations for our sons education.

St. James Episcopal Day School is Baton Rouge's best kept secret. I have 2 children that have attended St. James since Pre-K and Kindergarten and they are now in 3rd and 5th grade. Every year has been delightful and challenging within age-appropriate limits. The teachers and staff are nurturing and knowledgeable. I am an extremely overprotective parent but I trust my children in the care of the faculty and staff at St. James. The principal and teachers are top-notch. I am a part of Parents Guild and that group of women are amazing. The education is second to none. I would recommend St. James to everyone I know.

My 3rd son started at St. James two months after the school year started (transferred from another state/relocation for my husband's job). The staff and administration have gone above and beyond in making sure my son is settled and happy. The school notifies all the staff the day before the new student arrives, so that on day one- all staff members, administrators, everyone down to the cafeteria employees knew my sons name and made him feel welcome. All of the children in the school also knew his name. As a worried parent, not knowing for certain if you're making the best decision on a new school- St. James felt "right" right away. I felt secure in my decision on the first day. Great caring teachers, kind administrators, and a wonderful education. I have a 6th grade son whom I also had to secure a school for (St. James only goes to 5th grade). My 6th grader's transition was not nearly as smooth as the St. James staff and administrators made it for my 3rd grader. St. James provides an excellent education in a extremely nurturing environment!!!

I jumped up and down when we got the acceptance letter from St. James! This is a great school and I can't imagine my daughter going anywhere else. 2009 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, exceptional technology used every day in every classroom, involved teachers, small class size, and friendships that will last a lifetime.. I don't know what else anyone could ask for in a school.
