This school isn't what everyone around here makes it out to be. It hasn't been great since Dr. Irving left. Academically, it was ok. Some teachers are really good and attentive. Some will tell you your child has a learning disability because they have trouble grasping a certain subject. Bullying is not taken seriously at this school, not with the previous principal or the current, despite the administration telling you that they do everything in their power to ensure students feel safe. Both the principal and assistant principal will call your child and any complaints "petty." They just do everything they need to do to cover their own behinds in case you go to the district or sue. Yard aides are mean. Some teachers are nice, but most are biased towards and show favoritism to students whose parents they are friends with. Some teachers also gossip about students to other parents, which I find unethical, unprofessional and an invasion of student privacy. The moms who ran the parent club while my children were there were all catty, gossipy and pretentious. Parents also have a huge sense of entitlement. They don't follow parking lot/drop off rules because that's what Seven Oaks people do, apparently. The current principal will also not fight for your students or even push up against the district. Not even a little. You're better off homeschooling your kids or heading over to Highgate where I hear the principal is more assertive.

Awful experiences here with my kids. Should have put them elsewhere. Persistent bullying, issues with teachers, rotten politics. Should have put my child at Stockdale.

10/10 my daughter goes to Ronald Reagan and I feel blessed to have such great staff and amazing teachers setting positive influences all around.

I have to agree with the comment posted by 'a parent' on April 13, 2015. We live in the area and my children are spoiled. We managed to disrupt their 'normal' development by: not allowing them to watch TV, have cell phones and making sure they stay bored so they have to find ways to entertain themselves and play outside. Yes, my children get tutoring after school. My wife picks up our 3 children, takes them to after school sports, church activities then she starts doing homework. At around six, their private tutor comes. He has 11 years of formal education (after high school), speaks 2 languages and has a full time job. The tutoring hours are full of tears, laughter and lots of repetition. The tutor has been known to fall asleep while tutoring (after long hours at work).Our son was sent to another school for a year, but he made it and is now at Reagan doing well.Yes we spoil our children, with our time. Their education is up to my wife and me, NOT the school. Teaching takes place at school, learning happens at home with lots of practice. Just ask a piano player. Get rid of your TV and focus on your children - they will do better. I will never regret the long hours teaching math and spelling after my long hours at work, even if I fall asleep.Go Reagan.

Horrible, horrible principal. Transferred my child to an inferior school 5 miles away (a 4 out of 10 on GreatSchools) during second week of school with no warning! Even though we live just a few blocks from the school and registered early, she dropped this bombshell on us the second week of school and my son came home in tears saying "I got kicked out of school today." Heartbreaking!

School was fine for years with the old principal. Most teachers are caring and good. Granted, there were rumors of a few teachers asking parents to bring them Latte when they drop their kids off at school. No biggie. Must have been teacher appreciation day. But, nothing compared to what came after. Up to this point, traffic around the school parking lot and student drop-off has been running smoothly without hiccup.In 2015, a new principal joined. The first two weeks, she changed the well-established school parking lot and drop-off system, essentially causing huge confusion. Changing the two-way parking lot lanes into one-way and the new principal standing there for 15 minutes to block the well-established parking exit was just too much. A newly joined school principal got to have something better to do than manage parking lot traffic which has been fine for years ... until she decided to change it. By switching the left-lane merge & exit at the lot to the right lane merge & exit again after a short while turned already bad traffic to worse. The worst part is right after kids were sent home with a lengthy parking/drop off policy, the traffic turned to nightmare around the school. People were causing huge jam with absolutely NO regard to traffic laws; cars turning into the school were deliberately blocking the cars going straight. Now drivers' attitude is everyone-for-themselves, due to difficult traffic problem caused by the new principal.In the beginning, the new principal also required all the parents of the kids dropped off and walked-in through the office to sign their kids in, causing extremely long lines.While I understand the need to “perform” at your new job, this is just terrible. I can see that she is trying ... with fresh new "do not exit," "no left turn," and shiny traffic cones and whatnot, it is simply not working. Traffic around the school is at its worst in the last few years. Just awful. Don't take my word for it. Come drive/park/drop off your kids at the school on a school day. Downright ridiculous. That's micromanagement 101 for you.PS: Comment about kids doing well mainly due to outside tutors is mostly true since Seven Oaks is a rather affluent neighborhood. Most kids have private tutors. However, I think most teachers are great, caring, and encouraging to learning. So, I think they do a great job.

Great school, experienced teachers , and high parent involvement. My kids have been going there for 4 years now and I'm very happy with their academic achievements. The school has a very active and amazing parent club that makes a lot of extra enrichment activities possible. I'm very grateful for the school teachers and staff.

This school's boundary basically is entirety of Seven Oaks community. The high API score is due to high number of kids getting tutored outside of school. Most teachers are uninspiring and do not like to teach. The worst is that some of the teachers are spoiled by parents who give them expensive gifts. Premium handbags from Europe, family trip to Disneyland, and so on. These teachers expect you to give them expensive gifts for their birthdays, Christmas, and so on. It is basically haven for spoiled rich brats and kids are very exclusive. There's not one positive for this school.

So far I have been pleased with the school. I love the diversity and great parental involvement. I had to laugh at the review about white teachers discriminating against other races, though. During meet the teacher day my child's white teacher talked for a long time with a nonwhite parent and then skipped over me to talk to another nonwhite parent. So in my case the white parent was passed over and ignored by the white teacher. Hopefully "quick to pull the race card" parents won't ruin my (so far) positive experience with Ronald Reagan.

Reagan elementary is wonderful!! I have worked at this school as a teacher assistant AND had a daughter there for 2 glorious years! The day I moved to Florida was the saddest day. It meant my daughter had to leave the best school in Bakersfield. The staff and teachers are fantastic, helpful and kind. The Principal was great. I do wish he had been a little more present before and after school. I think he should be a part of pick up and drop off at the car drop off. This school has a wonderful campus and is equipped with a great library and comp lab. Parent club is amazing and fundraising is taken to a new level. The thing my daughter misses most is recess..(Florida has NO recess!!) ..the playground was her imaginary playground. Lots of great areas for kids to play and run. We had come from a title one school and Reagan Elem. was a breathe of fresh air...If your lucky enough to be at this school..count your blessing.. After moving to Florida I have decided to home school..NOTHING can compare to what I want unless I move back to Bakersfield. :(

Today is meet and great the teachers. I noticed that white teachers are discriminating. When white parents came, so much information were given. But when our turn came, she seems hesitant to give information and when other white people came she left us then came back. God bless you madam! First impression is lasting!

Receptionist is very rude. I have gone three different times to just get an enrollment packet, and I still do not have one. She acts like the paper for the packets come out of her pay check. My son attend a private school I am very worried about sending him here, I will be to worried to call and be treated as if I am doing something wrong.

pros/cons: pros- the teachers are awesome. Very caring, hard working, and they truly want the best for each student. The principal is very involved and present. The cons - large class sizes. My 5th grader has over 30 students in her class. The gate students are taken off site once a week to another school for an all gate class. Although I wish there was a gate class on site 5 days a week, my daughter was challenged and really enjoyed her gate class curriculum. My 5th grader & 3rd grader have been at this school for almost 2 years. Its a great school. Coming from So. CA we had a very successful transition to Bakersfield.

I attended Ronald Reagan for seven years. Wouldn't have chosen a different school if I had a choice! Great staff, and the teachers take time to get to know the kids and work with them to succeed as much as they possibly can. Wonderful community and ParentClub!
