I’ve been at this school with a kid for almost 7 years. The first few years were fabulous… it started to get a little worse around communication and they way teachers were supported and then COVID happened. We lost so many staff. Covid was hard on its own but SVEs leadership had changed and it was punitive, blaming, unsupportive and anxious. The teacher turnover was insane for years. The school has a new leadership this school year and it feels like things are beginning to stabilize a bit. I love this school and the community AND I seriously considered moving my kid for a few years.

This school gave me depression when I was a student there. The kids were extremely rude, and the teachers were terrible at teaching. THEY DON’T EVEN TEACH SPANISH, THEY JUST HAVE ASSIGNMENTS IN SPANISH!! Fix it so no other children would have to experience what I experienced.

Cannot retain teachers. Just shift teachers around without certification to be compliant. How does the principal not know a teacher isn’t certified before the start of the school year? Games at the expense of students. Ridiculous. If you have a choice, stay away.

This school made us feel worse than unwelcome. We NEVER had behavior issues with our child until we went her here. Now she hates going and the only bright spot is her ONE friend she has made. All of the kids bully her about her weight, her intelligence, her clothes, EVERYTHING. The teachers do worse than nothing, they tell her to go play BY HERSELF, while the kids making bigoted remarks get to keep on laughing and playing. This isn't just a gripe, the teachers are really a mess. We have seen negative improvement in our child in almost every area. We are paying for remedial reading over the summer just to try and undo the damage done.

This school is full of amazing educators who dedicate themselves to empowering all students. The teachers are professional and the administration is very child-centered and progressive. Students learn to read, write and speak in English and Spanish and there are many arts, STEM and musical enrichment programs available to all students. The community is welcomed and many events for families occur each year. The gardens are beautiful and the adults in the learning community ensure that they are well cared for so all students can learn in the gardens and eat from them. My son attends Sunset Valley and he is in two special populations. The staff has worked with him consistently and they continue to come up with ideas to help him be successful. They let him be who he is and I love this school for that! I am proud to be part of this school!

SVE is an amazing school! My son went there for Pre K and Kindergarten. I love that it is a small School. The teachers and staff are great! SVE encourages Parents to be involved. When they have programs or something special going on they usually do them twice once in the morning and one after school to give parents a chance to catch the program at a time that is best for them. The dual language program gives the students a chance to learn about diversity and it is great. The school has a lot of after school programs to help your children get involved and learning more. As a parent I think this school is great! I also had the opportunity to do my student observations in the classrooms at SVE. So I got to see the teachers and students in action. All I can say is this place is super special and have some amazingly dedicated teachers and staff. If we didn't have to move out of town my son would still be here.

We love SVE! We transferred from Becker Elementary because SVE was closer to home and we could continue in the dual language program. I have been really impressed with all the resources, programs, and extra curricular activities offered at the school. My kids, a kindergartner and second grader, have both benefited from Creative Action, a free Theatre arts after school program, Math Pentathlon and more. If you are looking for quality after school programs this school has many to chose from. SVE is organized and as parents you know what to expect. There is great parent/teacher communication and consistency in the information (and in the homework too!) that is relayed through the grade levels. I really appreciate this because as a parent I can be assured that another parent will have the same information I received. Lastly, I am a former teacher who tutors here and from that perspective I am equally pleased with this school. I am thrilled that my kids have the opportunity to benefit from a dual language school so close to home that is diverse, has dedicated teachers and a great community. Thank you SVE!

My child is in 2nd grade in the dual language program. She reads, writes & speaks Spanish quite well already (English native lang.). We are VERY HAPPY with this school. Teachers, staff, leadership are all very approachable and super-helpful. Strong PTA, organizes well. Good support from City of Sunset Valley too. School is smaller than many Austin elems, so that's a plus. We love SVE!

My child has been attending this school for the past two years as part of the Dual Language program, where the children are taught in both Spanish and English. We have had wonderful teachers and found the school administration to be responsive and helpful.

I love this school and feel it is a great fit for my children and our family. The principal and staff are nice and easy to work with. I would like to even more parents get involved.

My daughter is in first grade in the two-way dual language program. She loves her school and I have been very impressed with her teachers. And she's already reading is Spanish! There's also lots of great after school activities. This year she participated in a production of the Wizard of Oz, Math Pentathlon, and Mad Science. The PTA is strong and works hard to support the school. And the principal has been at the school for at least 12 years, has 2 daughters that attend the school, is extremely approachable and committed to this school. Plus we can ride our bikes to school!

My daughter is in 1st grade at SVE, and it has been a wonderful experience. She is in the dual language program and we have been very impressed with the program and the school. From the principal, the teachers, counselor to houskeeping there is a strong sense of community and dedication to the students. I feel that my participation and involvement in my child education is welcome and encouraged. And I really appreciate that!

I made one phone call to their main office after being notifiied by the main AISD office that Sunset Valley Elementary School is the one they are suppose to be attending. An administrator called me back like with 5 minutes from my message leaving. Went to the school and all I can say is WOW. I'm so ready to be a proud parent of this school. Yay! Yay! for my children is all I can say! :)
