We tried to make it work at this school for years. We finally had to leave after seeing that teachers were forcing kids to walk during their only 20 minute recess of the day.m as a punishment for not behaving in class. If kids aren’t sitting quietly at lunch they have to sit alone in the corner. The amount of public shaming that goes on at BTE is a disgrace. Our kids deserve kindness and compassion and a break during recess, which by the way should be an hour long! We were told that other parents want more discipline at the school so we moved our kids to Austin Discovery School where they are much happier and getting far more time outside as well as social-emotional coaching and a 4 day school week.

The principal Muehling gave me the impression that she is not very interested in helping the students. There is too much bullying, the teachers do nothing. My son told me that the teacher yelled at him that he was going to fail the year, and when he had exams the answers were good and he gave him a low grade. I always advised my son to understand that the teacher was patient and she demonstrated the opposite. Apparently the teacher stopped the hatred and began to recognize my son's efforts. I am concerned about children who are receiving this type of treatment and do not tell their parents and therefore do not receive adequate support. Please, elementary school is an important foundation for the health and well-being of every student.

My son attened prek & started kinder at this school. Prek was an ok experiance. Kindergarten was not. Poor coomunication with the parent. Teacher to student ratio was 20:1. I had to reach out to principal 2 times, & never got a response. Which is unacceptable. Teacher was out of classroom for various meetings through the week. If your child is anyway different they want to quickly label them with ADD/ADHD. Every child learns differently & at different rates. This school can't handle that. It makes their job of "teaching" harder. This school just barely got a B rating this year, & you can tell once your inside.

We transferred to this school after attending Oak Meadows Elementary school. We love the principal Mrs. Ewald and how involved she is. We receive weekly reports on what is going on within the school as well as daily reports to be informed on how our child is doing. I am very happy with our decision in choosing this school for our child's elementary school future.

My son attended 2nd grade at BTE this past year, and I left the year with a bad impression. Class ratio was approx. 20:1. Way too many kids in a class. The teacher was out very routinely (about once every two weeks), which resulted in a sub and ultimately a disruption to the class plan. The class ate lunch at 10:45am. Considering the school has late start Mondays when breakfast is served around 8am, then lunch at 10:45? This needs to be reconsidered. I had to reach out to the administration on two separate occasions leaving voice messages. The response time on the return phone calls on both occasions were unacceptable. (I am talking a few days here.) Overall, I feel our teacher's heart and motivation wasn't in it this year. I feel the administration and teacher did a poor job in communicating with parents. There is a lot of room for improvement.
