My daughter recently graduated from TNS, 2024. It was truly the best choice we could have made. The small class sizes provides a more intimate and hands on learning experience. The teachers aren’t overwhelmed with too many students and can provide one on one time with students. My daughter needed more personal attention than most from teachers who care and aren’t impatient. She got exactly what she needed at TNS and was prepared for college. Her first year in college has been great both socially and academically.

I would give it 0 stars if possible. This school is now a disaster. I truly believe it once was a great school, but the head of school is completely incompetent and doesn't hold anyone accountable (teachers and students). They have lost many of their great teachers from several years ago (and there are several teachers that are still good, but they don't actually push students enough to have a high quality education). Although it is relatively inexpensive compared to many other private schools, after having a child attend this school for one year, it is clear you get what you pay for. So, this is the school for you, if you want a school where your child will be in classes without teachers, where your child will not be challenged, will be left behind on field trips, where the head of school ignores requests for meetings for months on end about issues at the school, where the school doesn't provide the necessary paper work in time for deadlines in order for you to transfer to another school, where the head of school doesn't teach the class he is supposed to, where the math teacher is absent at least 1 day per week (my daughter taught math at least one day per week), where your child won't have a chair or a desk to sit at in some classes instead they get to sit on the floor or a counter, where the bathrooms are filthy because they are too cheap to pay for janitorial services and they don't actually have their students take care of the facilities like they are supposed to and the head of school doesn't deal with the problems. Lastly, they play games with classes to show you the good teachers during student shadow days while hiding the unsatisfactory teachers. If you want a real high school education do NOT go to this school.

TNS is a little gem of a high school. The academics are rigorous and TNS graduates are enjoying acceptances at some very impressive colleges. The student body is welcoming, diverse and dynamic. There are all types of kids and they all get along. The teachers are highly seasoned and clearly enjoy working with kids. My student has a few favorites but says that they are all good. And the leadership is both forward-thinking and grounded in the daily life of the school. It's not a big, fancy high school, but it has an enormous heart and is a place where every student is known. We couldn't be happier with TNS.

Most of the other reviews come from parents who don't experience what TNS has to offer on the daily, but this one comes from student who knows what it's really like. I hope this more intimate POV on TNS is helpful to those who want a clear view of what it's like to go here. Good luck to you in your search for the right high school.

The New School provides a great environment for students to learn. Faculty members have impressive credentials and are highly engaged with the students. Our daughter loves the school and enjoys applying what she learns to real-world projects in the surrounding community. The energy and vibe of the school is a real positive!

The New School has been the perfect environment for our 9th grade daughter. She is challenged academically - her physics, Spanish, humanities and language classes are all rigorous. She loves her teachers...they are very friendly, approachable and caring. Her advisor really has taken the time to get to know our daughter. At her parent-teacher conference (yes, they have parent-teacher conferences twice a year!), her advisor spoke knowingly, compassionately and supportively about our daughter's accomplishments, challenges and goals. The emphasis on leadership, teamwork, entrepreneurship and finding one's own passion is exciting. Our daughter LOVES going to school.
