This school is amazing! The community is great, the teachers are supportive, the admins are excellent! My experience has been nothing but outstanding! I would 100% recommend TMS! There are great course offerings (ie 4 languages, band, orchestra, choir, music tech, multiple PLTW courses, visual art classes, advanced math offerings, and others), many great clubs (ex. GSA, Newspaper Club, Yearbook Club, Graphic Design & Apparel, Tutoring, and many more! Tappan also has many sports teams, including basketball, soccer, track, cross country, synchronized and competitive swimming, baseball, softball, tennis, and others! 2 things I would like to correct from the above page are: a) we have a new principal, Dr. Tyese Parnell, as Dr Heyward has taken a new job in AAPS, b) while the only music options available for 6th & 7th grade are band, orchestra, and choir, Jazz Band is also offered in 8th grade, andc) we actually have 4 world language courses - German, French, Spanish, and Latin.

My son completed sixth and seventh grade at Tappan. He is going into his eighth grade year. The majority of the teachers and counselors are very helpful. My son started falling behind in math and the problem was caught and he was back up to speed in no time. Middle school can be a difficult time for children but my son is thriving at Tappan.

We started out excited about sending out 7th grader to this school. Unfortunately, it was a less than positive experience. Academically she fell behind and we needed tutors to get her into a good 8th grade school. The social experience is that of kids that are beyond their years, and very distracting. When I tried to talk to the advisor about issues related to my daughters academic performance, I was met with a very disinterested teacher. There were a few good teachers, but the majority were not interested in the students as individuals at all. While the discipline is strict because it has to be with all those kids, at times I thought it was rather unfair as well. The vice principal is fantastic, above and beyond, but he cannot make up for the other shortcomings in the school. Unfortunately, the crowding of the school is a big part of the problem, so unless the state provides more funding for more space and teachers, I don't see how it can improve.
