As a non-Catholic, I was worried my kids would receive either corporal punishment or religious indoctrination.I’m delighted to report that not only have neither of these occurred, but Lumen has surpassed all my expectations how kids are treated and educated. Both character and academically.Previous ASD teachers would regularly offer my kids time to redo poor test scores or missed homework. Nice for the kid? Yes, but not preparing them for the tough road ahead. Prepare the child for the road, not the road for the child.I was surprised how affordable LC is, and that they now offer a limited bus service to the south side of town. The teachers and staff make Lumen an amazing place and I’m so appreciative we found it.

Our child just transferred from Dimond High School to Lumen in the middle of her Sophomore year. She did not do well at public school for a number of reasons so we decided to try a private school. We are Protestant, not Catholic and our daugther currently declares herself as an atheist. Yet, we could not be happier. At first our daugther was very skeptical about the change, but decided only after 4 days at the new school that Lumen was a much better fit and that she did not want to go anywhere else. She has said "everyone at Lumen is just so happy all the time. They really seem to care about me and want me to learn. I can be myself there and they will accept me for who I am. I really feel safe and cared for." She has a brighter and more cheerful attitude. As parents, we are also very impressed with the academic rigor of the school. Our daughter is learning way above what she was before and is motivated to do better. With such small class sizes, the teachers can really teach and not just manage the classroom. We also love that she is learning about Jesus in the midst of her daily routine at school. She seems to be finding her friends and her fit. There does not seem to be many established groups of kids as there is a sense of camaraderie throughout the whole student body. She even likes the uniforms! As parents, we have also been truly welcomed into the school parent environment and other parents have approached us to ask how they can support us and get us involved. Our kids have attended a total of 9 different schools (pre, immersion, jr. high, high school), and the sense of community here is non other than I have seen. I only wish that we had her attend Lumen Christi sooner.

This is our second year at Lumen Christ and we are extremely happy with the choice we made for our daughter. The above-average test scores and 100% graduation rate are a direct result of the high-quality teaching and the caliber of the staff, who take an effective, creative approach to teaching, while emphasizing the Catholic faith. The extracurricular activities are an added bonus (our daughter has participated in soccer, band, and student government) and the small class sizes with active participation create a vibrant learning experience. The affordable tuition is also one of the lowest in Anchorage and a steal for the quality of education the students receive. I would encourage anyone to contact the school and take a tour - you will not be disappointed!

As a parent of a 7th grader, and a 6th grader who will follow in his brother's footsteps and attend next year, all I can say is "Woot! We love this school!" Small class size, very rigorous academics (without unreasonable amounts of homework), amazing teacher support, a welcoming atmosphere for any and all, access to sports, drama, student government... Lumen is the best kept academic secret in Anchorage. Our son is very social and loves to be with his friends and honestly, was very reluctant to attend Lumen - he only wanted to be with his friends from public school at our neighborhood junior high. Within just a few days of attending however, has done a complete 180 and talks about his Lumen experiences with anyone who will listen. As a parent who wants to raise children both of good moral character as well as academically prepared for college, I can't think of a better place than Lumen for them to be. The teachers and staff are all kind, caring and completely dedicated. Financial scholarships are available so don't let the idea of having to pay for school be a deterrent. I would encourage anyone thinking about private education to tour the school and see what it's all about!

I am a mom who has three graduates from Lumen and a freshman still at the school. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I've been with our experience at Lumen Christi. My three older children are in college and working towards their goals. They say they feel like Lumen prepared them for college and are all doing very well. My youngest is a freshman and loves Lumen she is very involved in sports, drama, and loves her academic class and her teachers. I would recommend Lumen Christi to everyone.

Our son is in his sophomore year at Lumen Christi High School. He is happily engaged in his studies, plays on all of the sports teams and is participating in student government this year. His teachers all know him well and care about his academic progress and success. He has made good friends and the families at Lumen care about ALL the kids and their moral and character formation. Our dedicated principal attends the school sport and social events and is at most meetings throughout the weekday evenings! As Lumen parents, we are all interested in seeing our young people grow in their faith and reach their potential and personal dreams. Our teaching staff is very well educated and enthusiastic about the subject matter they teach. Lumen Christi offers a small, but highly academic environment that strives to meet each student individually, to honor the dignity of each person and to foster a community of enthusiastic learners. We are grateful for the opportunity he has had to grow in faith and friendship. It is the best investment in our son's future that we could ever imagine!

Our daughter has attended Lumen since 7th grade and we love it! The small class sizes, dedicated teachers and family atmosphere create a wonderful learning environment. Our daughter enjoys the many sports offered at Lumen as well as participating in drama and student government.

This is our second year at Lumen Christi. We like the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the feeling of community. Although it is a small school, there are several sports teams, drama, music, art, and other activities in addition to the challenging academic program. I have found the teachers and staff to be highly committed and I believe they truly care about every student. My family also likes the support of strong Christian values and the efforts to organize community service projects. Even though Lumen has a vibrant Catholic identity, there also are numerous students from other Christian faiths. We love Lumen, and wouldn't consider going anywhere else!

The most appealing aspect of this little school is its academic excellence that puts the student at the center of learning. The teachers are highly qualified and have a lot experience. They succeed to create a safe, friendly and relaxed environment, everybody is welcoming and helpful and it is pretty to 'feel home' quickly.

We found Lumen Christi High School to be one of the best options for a private education in the Anchorage area. We noticed that over 80% of the teachers hold Masters degrees (or higher) in their areas of expertise. The school has relationships with a number of colleges and universities available to students to supplement a very strong curriculum. Students attend from as far away as Chugiak, Eagle River, and Girdwood to receive a quality, faith-based education. With it's new leadership, we see amazing potential for the school. The school continues to raise its academic standards and actively participates in both church and community service activities. Students who transfer out of state to other schools often find themselves in AP classes. The school also maintains a robust sports program and offers a number of wonderful extra curricular activities from choir to drama and yearbook. An extra benefit is the small class sizes with individualized student attention. We give Lumen Christi our highest rating and believe it is one of the best kept secrets for faith-based education in Alaska!

My School is Lumen Christi Catholic High School in Anchorage, Alaska. My children have been at this school for 5 years. I am so pleased with the quality of education and the great teacher student ratio. The parent community is phenomenal. The extracurricular activities are available to my kids that would not be available in a larger public school because they did not come into high school with years of club sports behind them. The coaches are excellent. They experience team work, and competition and sportsmanship. Everyone willing to come out and do their best has a spot on the schools teams. I also love that the values and standards I set for my children are reiterated at school and shared by the families that are there as well. And lastly, the tuition is reasonable - around $5600 a year. I am very proud to say my children attend Lumen Christi Catholic High.

We are loving Lumen Christi. The staff is organized, professional, and positive. The athletic department offers several well-organized teams and great coaches. My daughter has been held to a high standard in her academics and is thriving.

I can appreicate a school whose staff knows each student (whether they are in their class or not) by name. it is easy, and all too common, for students to fall through the cracks in public schools. Lumen's staff is wonderfully attentive and both recognizes and encourages each student to their full potential.

Teachers, admin and sports program is great! Overall atmosphere is healthy without being repressed. Physical plant is very nice without being ostentatious. JB
