We just moved jere year ago , hoping to get a fresh start, but the school has been a nightmare & particularly the principal. The school has a huge bullying problem my son in the year we’ve been here has been physically assaulted three times at least being slapped hard enough by the student that ruptured his eardrum he is ADHD and autistic and he’s been made fun of for it. He’s been called Megamind, big head, sped (special needs as an insult) among many other things, a lot of which are curse words & inappropriate things that shouldn’t be helping in seventh grade, the principal Mr jones does very little about it is extremely manipulative & rude and every time it’s to brought to his attention it’s a fight to get him to listen or do anything about it usually resulting him and calling my child liar and he knows these other kids and they wouldn’t do or say something like that even when it’s on camera and worse, I’m literally telling my child that him getting hit with his fault because he walked near that kid tried to speak to him. They didn’t wanna be spoken to and I quote “ this could’ve been avoiding if you would’ve just stayed away from him and not to talk to him when he didn’t wanna be talk to you” which is disgusting me because that’s not a reason to hit someone this happed again where they stole his shoe off him & threw it in a trash can. the principal’s response to that was the that “ the garbage can was clean, so I don’t think it was not big of a deal and it looks like he got it back with a minute or two so they didn’t even have it that long and once again, your son was talking to them and they thought it was annoying that’s why they did it and he needs to not be annoying people cause I could be seen as instigating” so wrong of an adult that’s supposed to be taken care of Kids to say. no matter if he’s annoying or walk too close to them or try to talk to them he shouldn’t get hit or verbally abused or his shoes taken off him or anything else. It’s toThe point where’s kids are scared to go to the office to talk to him to tell him anything happened because they know that they’re gonna get called liars He’s not gonna listen to them or do anything or worst are gonna believe the bullies instead of them & they’ll end up in trouble somehow for something they didn’t do simply because the bully has fr friends willing to back them up and say that they didn’t do it were my son does not have friends to back him up wich as been the case a few times

The attention to detail has been skipped over. Multiple accounts of inaccurate data keeping for attendance. Very few measure taken towards the safety of my kids the teachers never seem to be present when there is a injury or matter which needs assistance of the child. Refused to let my child use his safety watch for contact of a parent in a emergency. My child is scared to return to school for not knowing how to react when something is to happy and who they should talk to because they don’t know if they will be punished or helped. The faculty seems to cover up for each other when there is a problem that has happened instead of searching for the answers through the students

Absolutely horrible school. Inaccurate record keeping, they have marked my child absent and unexcused 3 times when my child was either there or had a physicians note. They threaten 6 year olds with a paddle for no apparent reason. They do not provide a safe learning environment, they do not follow legally binding IEPs or the laws and regulations surrounding them, they lie about events happening at school causing significant decline in academic progress and emotional distress and are incompetent enough to put all of their lies in writing. This school is corrupt and very much disregards the well being of the children attending this school. This school caused physical, mental and emotional harm to my child and then refused my child the right to call me for help. I attempted to discuss my concerns more than 15 times with his teacher, the principal, ESE, and the superintendent for Calhoun county. My child has now missed school due to the fear for his safety and this will be discussed with the department of education, cadre works, the court and the news if I must to ensure my children are receiving a proper education in a safe learning environment. This school needs a major reform. Our children deserve better. The changes I have seen in my child’s behavior and decline in academic progress since attendance at this school is undeniable and severe. This is something no child should have to go through again.

Excellent staff keep this school running with the appropriate energy and intellect to produce award winning students. The trade off is between smaller social classes and greater one-on-one instruction. Altha Public School has exemplified the latter.

Over all I suppose Altha Public is a good school. Although, I do feel like there needs to be something done about the discrimination problems there. My children go there, and I get comments from one of my children about other students making racist comments toward them. I feel that everyone has a choice on how to raise their children, but you should at least teach them to respect others regardless of what color they just so happen to be. I have seen Altha, Florida change over the years, not as harsh as it used to be. Still, there are some people blinded to the fact that the United States of America is a free country and WE ALL have the right to live here, regardless of our race, disability, and sexual orientation. I have often thought to pull both of my kids out of Altha Public, but then what would that teach my children? To run from your problems and you are different than everyone else. No, my children and everyone else's children have the right to go to any school they should want without being bullied on a daily basis. I believe that it is the responsibility of the staff and parents to come together to teach our children that we all bleed red.
