I love the teachers at TBJHS and the support staff! Most of them are very caring and engaging with their students and families if you wish to be. I have 2 children that have gone through this school. Junior high is tough. The staff there made the struggles easier and were very responsive to any inquiries or concerns i had. Transition to high school was tough after being in such an engaging school.

Please read before considering.Major favoritismThe edison program doesn't workOnly some of the staff actually want to helpSexually harassed TWICE (staff and student) but it didn't get resolvedCares little about students mental healthPopular people get away with anything cause the school favorites themDress code is not enforcedGot called "Numbnuts" by bishop Teacher gave away candy to two girls for bullying someoneForceful Pushing and shoving in the halls My sister had been assaulted, got a concussion, school suspended him for two days when in reality by HANDBOOK, APS were supposed to send my sister by ambulance to hospital but instead they wanted her to attend the rest of the day.And lastly, any reports will be returned with either a lunch detention or a structure day. I've never seen someone get expelled other than my sister when she tried defending herself against bullies. The school hates giving expulsions and suspensions over a week Lunch detentions are a slap on the hand. You're supposed to sit quietly without a device and eat your food. (staff lets you go on devices anyway so it kills the punishment)Structure day is when you leave class 5 minutes early, sit in a room for the whole passing hour and do a test about happiness. (You also have lunch and breakfast there)I don't know anyone with a punishment higher than a structure day. After the structure days are over, it's back to picking on people. The school passes anyone (I had all F's in 6th but passed same as many others)Hard to get SOME respect to otherKinda ironic when the slogan has respect in itR - RespectE - forgotP - Personal responsibility The banners about anti bullying are a jokeRachel's challenge is to make the school look goodAnd all of this is just for the staff to say,

My experience with Thunder Bay Junior High was arguably one of the worst times I had ever had to go through during my life of having to go to school. Teachers and staff were rude disrespectful not just to me but other students who I went to school with. The teachers were poor when it came to just educating us and poor at communicating to the students. Hallways and classrooms always for some reason smelt EXTREMELY bad. Back in 6th grade, I was written up for going to the bathroom when a teacher was explaining something (Pretty sure that's illegal). For the 3 years that I spent there, I was miserable and unhappy to the core. I really think someone really needs to look into that place and see what the teachers and staff are like because trust me, THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BEHIND CLOSED DOORS! They are horrible when it comes to preparing students for high school, because I was very much unprepared for high school and was worried sick I wouldn't survive it after everything that happened at Thunder Bay. Ironically my grades improved amazingly once I came to the high school. I would strongly recommend all parents to NOT send their kids to this school. Either send your kid online, home school them, or some other alternative. This school is a perfect example of why our education system is failing. BE AWARE!

I have been a student at Thunder Bay Junior High School for almost three years, and I feel it's important to share some observations about the school environment. One area that could benefit from attention is the administrative structure, including the recent addition of the assistant principal. Clear communication and coordination among the administration team would contribute to more effective school management.Diversity is another aspect that could be enhanced to create a more inclusive atmosphere. A richer representation of backgrounds and perspectives would undoubtedly enrich the educational experience for all students.Addressing inappropriate behaviour and fostering a culture of respect is crucial. Instances of immaturity, especially misogyny, need proactive measures to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.Lastly, there have been perceptions of unequal treatment favouring male students, both by administration and staff. It's essential to uphold principles of fairness and equity to ensure a positive and supportive environment for all students.I believe that by addressing these concerns, Thunder Bay Junior High School can continue to evolve into a more positive and inclusive learning community.
