This school is better than most. The teachers are concerned with the students' well-being as well as academic performance. As it is a small community, many teachers' children also attend school in the district. The school doesn't offer many extra-curricular activities; however, it is a small student enrollment. I believe each grade level has between 45-60 students. I would like to see more activities offered such as some sort of volunteer organization, chess club, debate club, etc. As far as sports, they offer volleyball, cross country, co-ed soccer, 8-man football, basketball, track & field, softball and baseball. It would be nice to see tennis, weightlifting, wrestling or dance. Other extracurricular activities include band, choir, Destination Imagination, Math team, One-Act play, Musical. There is also a new offering at the school called Algoma Venture Academy. This is a project-based program that is self-directed by the student with guidance from teachers. It is nice as the student can concentrate on classes or activities, they enjoy such as robotics, welding, art, landscaping, etc. These projects are then tied into objectives to meet other curriculum such as math, science, grammar, physical education, language. Overall, I would recommend this district as a whole to others. It has been beneficial to all my children, especially coming from a district that was sports centered and allowed bullying with no repercussion's.
