Despite the Stem qualification this school greatly fails in education. The family engagement is lacking and communication from Teachers is almost no existant. The school has very lax rules when it comes to safety and bullying. The redirection program does not work. The harrasement and tornment of students at this school is absoultely horrific. The school has improved slightly but I would run and find a better option

I have had two of my children go to school at Garfield and have seen many changes that have happened. There was a principal change that did affect some of the changes implemented at the school but things seem to be running better. I have had a very pleasant experience with the way the school has shown my children different types of STEM careers and how they can be implemented into everyday life. the Leadership program has really excelled in the last couple of years and I cannot express the amount of joy I get from working or talking with the community school coordinator that they have on campus. Garfield does try to do fun stuff for the student to see the staff talk on the volleyball team or basketball team going to into breaks ( none of which could be done this year).

The staff is very supporting of the students & works to help the students realize their potential. The Leadership program works to support the STEM part of the school with drones, rockets & 3D printers. The program has many after school programs, such as archery, drill, color guard, PT just to name a few. The Leadership program has a curriculum that not only teaches students how to become tomorrow's leaders today, but works to build a community that supports each other.

For my grandson's first year of mid-school, we put him into a school outside of his district, in order to avoid him going to Garfield. We did this because we had heard that Garfield was a bad school, and that there were constant fights there. He ended up going to Garfield for his 7th grade year, and he has done very well there. Garfield has some very excellent teachers, and I am sorry that we did not send him there since his 6th grade year. He is now in 8th grade, and I have been very happy with his progress at Garfield. I have great interactions with some of his teachers, and they have all been wonderful to work with. If you have children who will be attending middle school in the near future, you need to consider Garfield as a place to send your child. You will not regret it.

My child is THRIVING at this school! They started at Garfield STEM as a 6th grade student and was welcomed with open arms! Now that my child is an 8th grader, she has truly grown and accomplished her many goals! The environment at Garfield is so warm and caring and the teachers work incredibly hard to help with that. My child has had many opportunities in her classes to be engaged with real-life lessons and interests she has. She loves her music classes and her Social Studies classes. She has learned to enjoy engineering and Science classes now that she's had the exposure to them. Overall, this is a great school and I plan to send my other kids there when they are older. Thank you, Garfield STEM staff for all that you do!

Garfield STEM Magnet is a great multigenerational community school. This school provides many opportunities for their students to learn and grow during their time there. Teachers are very positive and helpful to their students.

i went to garfeild for one and a half years. i had to transfer mid year. the teachers have no control over students, the prinsipl does nothing, the students bully other kids because of race religon weight or mental/physical disablity or even how smart they are! over all a horrible school. i would rather send my children back to elemetary than to this school.

Garfield staff has been working very hard with the students to improve the environment. The school has a positive atmosphere and the staff really cares to make sure the learning at this school is top notch. There have been problems, but those are now decidedly in the past.
