I recently graduated from Alexander, and the only thing I gained from my experience was trauma. While I had some truly wonderful and dedicated teachers, they are in the minority. Racism is rampant - Alex is not a safe space for anyone with a minority identity. Alexander is a school steeped with deep poverty and inequality issues. The administration is stagnant on any kind of growth or reform. I and many of my fellow students experienced complete botching of sexual assault investigations, particularly from the principal, Lee Raines. The school does very little to prevent dropout, many kids are functionally homeless (and the school doesn't have the resources to support them). All in all, don't send your kid here unless you have no other choice. And if you do, be an active parent. Advocate for your kid, and pay attention to what goes on at school.

Poor administration. Wanting to send kids to court more than do their jobs

I attended this school in the 80's and now have my children enrolled there. Things have changed so much over the years. Both my children attend college now and are doing very well and I am very thankful they learn quickly. The school seems to be so far behind what other schools are teaching. I realize some changes have been made to the curriculum recently but more changes are needed. Lets truly prepare them for college ex: take a test in one period for those in excellerated or honors classes, lay ground rules and stand firm. Dress code, that's another huge issue! I was embarrassed for some of the girls that attend prom and homecoming. Seriously, if the rules for the campus are in place then they should be carried out for every school function. Ex: length of dresses (don't tell me you can't find reasonable dresses, I found my girls appropriate dresses) Sports bras acceptable for sports practices... really! Come on Alexander we can be better than this!!

Sexism, discrimination, controlling ways. No freedom in this school. No freedom to express what you believe, no freedom to be who you are, no freedom to learn anything of value to you. People are judged and unjustly treated. It often feels more like a prison or juvenile detention center than a school. Not to mention all the flaws in the administration of the school. If you are not the average high school student lets just say your time here will be torturous. If you are a person who has a fiery spirit against others trying to dictate over you and take away and ruin anything about you then this will be your own personal hell.

I felt compelled to write a review about this school after reading some of the reviews already published. I graduated from this highschool a few years ago feeling very lost. Everything about this school was discouraging. The classes are boring and repetitive. The number of sports and extracurricular activities are extremely limited. Socially, Alexander is a very repressive school. Sexism from students and teachers is commonplace and the poor are judged openly here. The drug problem at the highschool is well known and the schools way of dealing with the drug problem is even worse. They often punish the drug addicted students with school suspensions and turning them in to the police, which only makes the students feel even more isolated and alone. I cannot support a school that uses negative reinforcement with children. After I graduated from Alexander, I attended Ohio University. I saw my fellow classmates drop like flies during their freshmen year until only a few went on the graduate. I had a few wonderful teachers here but the memories of Alexander have made me want to homeschool my own children.

went there in the past just graduated a few years ago overall its a good school , But there is a lot of favoritism and if you or your kids are not the picture perfect student/model or are not that interested in sports you might as well be ready to be treated like an outcast. many of the teachers are great there were only two or three that me and my friends disliked. DRESS CODE only applies to some students for example one rule is no yoga/leggings but if your ether a cheerleader or a volley ball player they wont reprimand you but if your a band member or a little "different" than everyone else you will get an after school. so this would be a great school for a student that is looking to play sports or something like that but nothing else many of the students and a few faculty members are very very judge mental!

Alexander High School is an excellent school. I have been involved there for the past 8 years, first as a student and now at the professional level of a coach and professional Intern from nearby OU. Having observed other schools, I have yet to find one that displays the same amount of care and support for students from staff members. There may be some limitations due to it being a small school (the students say the lunch is inadequate this year due to budget cuts), but the environment is unlike any other. Students are very accepting of one another, and display respect to one another and to the staff. Their support and encouragement is something that will always be there for any student, former student, and staff member.
