I gave the school a zero out of five stars since one of the kids got flipped off by one of the teachers, not even any names, but his teachers name starts with a B

It has always been a school kids go to because it's their district. It has never been a first choice school in Alameda

I agree with the other guy but it’s on another incident .my son has to go to the corner of the class because news reported that theirs an active treat in the restroom when every this is a prank or not my son and other kids are in serious danger so I recommend this school to have metal detectors and mental hospitals near us

I don’t really like this school because of the education system and sped classes

Alameda High struggles with major issues that impact the student experience. The SPED program is poorly managed, offering little support for students who need it most. Bullying is widespread, and the administration does little to address it, leaving many students feeling unsafe. On top of that, the learning environment suffers from disengaged teachers and outdated materials, making it hard for students to succeed academically. Overall, the school needs serious improvements in both support and leadership.

The subjects are good, good community, the only problem is that your yearly experience is HEAVILY dependent on the teachers you get. My apush teacher only talks about himself and I just know I'm failing the AP test because of it. School lunch is good, Campus is great, I never find myself being late to classes, but the hall monitors can be a little strange at times. Gender neutral bathrooms are required to have the doors open at all times, which i'm pretty sure is to prevent vaping but it's kinda like really discriminatory towards gender non-conforming students. Overall really good school, I feel like I was kind of negative towards it but i've genuinely enjoyed my time here.

Toxic culture, cheating is rampant, extremely racist, they don’t want you to succeed at all. After graduating, community college is requiring me to retake all classes because apparently of some scandal and very poor performance of the school, even though I got all A grades at the school, it’s worthless when colleges see this school as worthless.

As a parent of a sophomore, I am here to say this school used to be great but is now just good. Lots of activities, good variety of people. Academics are good but grade inflation abounds and both counselor support and AP class access is weak. Teacher quality is hit or miss, with several being last minute hires who have little experience. Oversight of classroom quality is mediocre.

Alameda High is a great school and prepares students for college and beyond very well. As with most schools, there are some mediocre teachers and classes, but there are also incredible teachers that make learning fun. Sports teams, music/theater groups, or clubs allow students to form great friendships. The leadership feels a little inefficient at times and maybe doesn't make great use of time or resources but overall does a pretty good job.

We've had a good experience at this school in general. Like any big school, not all the teachers are effective (we've had a few duds) but on balance, our child has had mostly high-quality teachers and some truly exceptional ones. Many of the AP teachers are excellent, very experienced, and committed to being there to help the kids when needed. The school has a Link Crew program for Freshmen orientation that is a good way to help incoming students feel connected and have support from older students. The Principal is quite good and communicates clearly and regularly. The College & Career Counseling center is also good and has worked hard during COVID to try and support students and their families through the applications process, with zoom meetings, video tutorials, virtual college visit days, office hours, etc. The grade-based academic school counselors have also been responsive during Covid.

Most teachers I have seen are average, although some are good and a few are quite bad. Generally, there is a lack of "togetherness," meaning students tend to stay in their own groups and everyone else is an outsider; students nor teachers will reach out. This school's worst trait is likely its social environment, which certainly creates a poor environment for learning. Only a select few teachers seem to truly care about their students.Overall, it gets students through but, as of 2020, probably not a place your child will look back on very fondly. It's nothing to write home about.

Overall, positive. My issues mostly are about the district than the individual school.

I appreciate that there are caring teachers and a lot of parents who fully support their children and are interested in their children's education.

My student enjoys school at AHS. He has mild ADHD and is being well-served by the teachers and staff. I was impressed with the vice-principal who knew my student by name (not for the wrong reasons!). Diverse class offering and clubs/sports; something for everyone.

Students here do not reach out to others. Many cliques all around the campus who are all closely knit to one other than to the people around them. There is no football field, instead you have to walk 10 blocks to a McKinley park just to go watch a home game. Not a very diverse student body.
