Canebrake is one of Julian's most unique desert communities. It is approximately 40 miles from the historical town of Julian off the S-2 or historic 'Great Overland Stage Route -GSO' and 22 miles from Interstate-8. The cabin has been improved from its original 604 square feet. Its open, light, and airy space make it a natural gathering place to share meals or refreshments with friends and family at either the counter or the spacious dining area. The casual modern, bright kitchen can work for any skill-level cook. The community of Canebrake is a special one homesteaded by pioneers in the 1940s. Known for hardiness and teamwork, the founders formed their own County Water District, which still operates today as the Canebrake County Water District. There is no HOA, but membership in the Canebrake Improvement Association is twenty dollars a year and is voluntary but includes many benefits, including the enjoyment of the McKenny Hall Community Building.
