Why Y'all will Love Living in Virginia

Sorry, John Denver, but the Blue Ridge mountains and Shenandoah River are in western Virginia, not West Virginia. Maybe that's why West Virginia is almost heaven.

Virginia is a history lovers’ paradise. The Revolutionary War ended here in Yorktown, four of the first five presidents were Virginians, and their homes are all renovated and open to the public. Civil War battlefields are scattered throughout the state. One of the best public universities in the United States, the University of Virginia, tucked into the valley city of Charlottesville in the center of the state, founded by Thomas Jefferson, is one of the greatest bargains in education for in-state students.

Climate is moderate with hot, humid summers and short spells of cold winter. The network of rivers (the rivah) running through Virginia provides hot weather relief for swimmers, kayakers, canoe-ers, or just plain hanging out with your buddies. Several ski resorts nestle into the mountains of the western part of the state. Spring and autumn are delightful outdoor months. Driving or hiking the Blue Ridge, major college football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and the tailgate or the backyard barbeque are enhanced by the mild and usually clear weather.

As the first permanently colonized state, transportation and logistics has always been an important industry in Virginia. Richmond is located one-day’s vehicle travel to half the population of the US. Deepwater Terminal is the furthest inland cargo shipping center in the US. Railroads carry coal and timber across the state. Virginia's unique location profits from the federal government employment opportunities in the north, military influence in the east, rich natural resources, great coast plain and valley agricultural land in the middle with a Federal Reserve Bank anchoring financial institutions.

The culture of history and excellent universities provide family day trips that lean towards education as well as lifetime opportunities.

Virginia is a great place to raise a family or enjoy the adventures of singles life. Y'all come for a visit, and stay.
