People from all over make the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade a holiday tradition and the 89th annual romp was no different. As one of over three million people who lined the streets of Manhattan to view the parade live, we met people from all over the country who made the trip to New York City just for the event. The crisp, cool air that greeted parade goers in the wee hours of Thanksgiving Day, 2015 matched their resolve to view the parade from the very best vantage point. The parade route spans from 77th Street all the way to 34th Street right in front of Macy’s Department Store, attracted millions of spectators on the ground and on television. Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade Many of the parade goers tend to travel by subway to the event. The subway has a stop on the local track at 72nd Street which leaves you 13 feet away from parade paradise. Many of the people who drove in from surrounding areas had to park up to twenty blocks away and walk back to an ideal vantage point at 70th street. The subway appears to be the most advantageous means to reach the parade route as it is extremely convenient and inexpensive. The parade goers perched against the metal barricades at 70th street just a few blocks downtown from the parade starting line formed a bond on the ground. The beautiful detailed architecture of the surrounding residential apartment buildings looked serene in the darkness -- and it was a chilly 39 degrees at 5:20 a.m. as the spectators marked their territory on the parade route. Central Park West is a neighborhood that has grown accustomed to the crowds of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. All shades were drawn as the crowds assembled. Many parade goers brought along blankets, chairs and snacks to help pass the time in as much comfort as can be gathered in the cold temperatures. The enthusiasm warmed every heart and helped others brave the elements.
Right across the street sits the majestic Central Park. Some autumn leaves stubbornly hung on to their tree-houses in defiance of the chilly winds. The ticketed seating was erected right outside of the park. The ticket-less bystanders felt their stance reigned supreme though since it was too cold to sit anyways. The New York City Police Department made their presence known and there was an air of secure comfort along the parade route. Like freedom, the parade marches on victoriously amidst all the threats to peace. The 70th Street parcel had a very friendly officer stationed nearby to keep the peace. In addition to a providing safety, his jovial antics kept everyone entertained as he joined in with the wonder of the event. Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade As the crowds gathered, an air of expectation filled the air. It was finally nearing show-time. The clowns began to circle around, throwing confetti, carrying balloons and spreading cheer as the very first floats and fantastic, humongous balloon characters were seen. People began folding their chairs making way for the growing throngs of spectators. The feeling in the air was one of family. Little ones were ushered to the front of the crowd so that they could get the best view. Toddlers shared smiles and offered songs and cheer as the first floats begin to make their way down the parade route. And What a Show it Was!

Seeing the parade on the Upper West Side gives you get a great view. More people gather towards the performances center which is at 34th Street. The spectators who view along the earlier parts of the route see many of the same celebrities, without the crowds. Jordin Sparks waved and wished all a Happy Thanksgiving as she floated by on her festive float. Musical stars and bands seemed to be at their best at this parade as the crowds were treated to glimpses of Train, Mercy Me, Pat Benatar, Trey Songz, Mariah Carey, and Panic at the Disco!, among others. The holiday themed floats blasted music, and many waving and smiling festively dressed youngsters brought much merriment as they stars floated by. Some of the very best high school marching bands traveled thousands of miles to highlight this holiday tradition. Parade goers were treated to see the spectacle of excellent representatives from Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Florida. There were bands galore who treated the crowds to music and smiles as they brought the sights and sounds of the big band to Central Park West and beyond. Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade Children cheered with delight as the balloon of Thomas the Train made its way down the parade route. Another crowd pleasing balloon was the Mighty Power Rangers.
