1. Irvinites Live And Breathe Summer And Sun
People in Irvine absolutely love that their city’s weather is sunny and warm year round. They’re constantly taking advantage of the 75 degree average climate, driving out to the coast for beach trips and showing some skin in bikinis and shorts whenever they get a chance.
Irvinites also never hesitate to enjoy the great outdoors. You’ll find hiking trails, bike paths, parks and golf courses packed with residents regardless of the time of the year because, in Irvine, people know they’re almost always guaranteed gorgeous weather.
2. You Won’t Find An Irvinite In Anything But The Sweetest Ride
Irvine locals are real choosy when it comes to their rides. They won’t settle for anything less than the kind of ritzy, sleek cars that car fans everywhere are drooling over. And don’t expect just the older well-established adults to have lavish rides. The high school parking lots around here are littered with fancy automobiles.
Irvinites are so crazy about cars, they even have a weekly event held each Saturday called Cars and Coffee where hundreds of proud drivers gather to show off their rides. It’s like show and tell for Irvine grown-ups and an excuse to brag about their ultra snazzy automobiles.
3. In Irvine, Bubbles Aren’t Just For Blowing—They're For Living
Living in Irvine can sometimes feel like being in a big bubble. Irvinites all live in separate “villages” in the city that are equipped with their very own schools, parks and malls, so residents barely ever need to travel more than a few blocks.
Because of this Irvinites find it easy to forget about the world and easily get wrapped up in the city’s inner happenings. Some become so entangled in the Irvine lifestyle that they actually prefer to stick to the confines of their city village and never really leave.
4. Irvinites Can’t Go Anywhere Without Seeing A UCI Student
Growing up, many Irvine locals set their heart on attending the University of California Irvine. The school plays a huge part in the community. Step into any coffee shop near the university during the academic year and every table will be filled with study groups, textbooks and laptops.
Even those located far from the campus are hard pressed to escape its influence, since UCI students account for a good chunk of Irvine’s population. And pretty much everyone in Irvine, regardless of where they live or come from, knows at least one person who is attending or has attended the school.
5. Irvine Is Home To Hordes Of In-N-Out Fanatics
Irvinites won’t bother with drive-through burgers from anywhere but In-N-Out. People there have been addicted to In-N-Out cheeseburgers for years, so that now their taste buds have been trained to reject any other fast food burger. Irvinites were ordering animal style burgers before it was cool and won’t settle for anything less than a double double with a side of hot, perfectly salted fries, all polished off with a thick sweet shake.
6. But People Here Still Won’t Touch Any Food That’s Not Fresh, Local Or Organic
For people who are so crazy about their drive-through burgers and fries, Irvinites sure can be fresh food snobs.
Most prefer to buy their produce organic and local, and you’re much more likely to find people shopping at stores that are known for their fresh and natural foods (I’m looking at you, Trader Joes) over any other average supermarket. They’ll really only eat the best products they can get their hands on, so don’t be surprised if, after offering an Irvinite a simple fruit or vegetable, they drill you on exactly where it came from.
7. Irvinites And Mickey Go Way Back
Irvinites have all taken that short drive to the “happiest place on earth” at least once, if not so many times they’ve lost count. Disneyland holds a special place in their hearts that outsiders just can’t understand, their childhoods filled with memories of spinning tea cups and pictures with Mickey Mouse.
For Irvinites, saying Disneyland is just for kids is completely ridiculous. They’ll visit the theme park at any age, proudly wearing the iconic mouse ears on their heads (we know you have them stashed somewhere). Disneyland even offers special passes for Southern California residents in response to locals’ obsession with the spot, and Irvinites jump at the chance to snag one each year.
8. Irvinites Are Unashamed, Self-Professed Beach-Hoppers
When the weather’s warm and the sun is shining (which, let’s be honest, is most of the time) Irvinites will pack their sunscreen and towels and head to the beaches just outside the city. It doesn’t matter that Irvine isn’t right on the water—there are several sandy ocean-side spots to give people their beach fix.
Irvinites have all of Southern California at their disposal and like to take advantage of it. They don’t just limit themselves to the super close beaches, but often eagerly make the drive to farther off destinations like San Diego or Santa Barbara for a change of scenery. Don’t believe me? 9. Irvine Is A City Full Of Smarty-Pants
Irvine is home to some of the smartest people around. Almost everyone has graduated from high school (97% of residents to be exact) and most hold a bachelor degree (often from one of the city’s many universities).
Irvinites also like to get their geniuses started young and will only enroll their kids in the best elementary and high schools the city has to offer. The University of Irvine even has an early childhood education center to develop their own community of little Einsteins. So beware if getting into a battle of wits with someone from Irvine—they can hold their own.
10. If Irvine Had A Favorite Color, It Would Be Green
Irvinites know just how they like their city space: green. They’re ultra passionate about the environment and adamant about preserving it as much as they possibly can, always ready to take part in the city’s many conservation and sustainability programs. They practically recycle more things than they toss in the trash.
Irvinites prefer open space over concrete buildings any day and will do anything to keep their home as green as possible.
