The second smallest state in the union by area, just after Rhode Island- Delaware sits nearly perfectly equidistant between the tip of Florida and the Canadian border. It covers about a quarter of the Delmarva peninsula and has approximately 28 miles of largely resort coastline. Known locally as the First State, Delaware became the first of the original thirteen colonies to ratify the US Constitution on December the 7th, in 1787.
