The City of Kyle TX was formed in 1880 when people settled the are from Blanco and Mountain City. The town was named for Fergus Kyle, who along with the help of David Moor's family, donated 200 acres of land for the town's site when the International and Great Northern Railroad built a line running from San Antonio to Austin. Kyle straddles I-35 and is centrally located to many of the major cities in Texas. The town rests eight miles north of San Marcos, 20 miles south of Austin, 60 miles north of San Antonio, 200 miles west of Houston, and 250 miles south of Dallas.

The City of Kyle is unique in that local government has taken the matter of fitness into their own hands by contracting with local fitness companies to offer cheap classes to their citizens. The fitness programs are contracted to Live Well Fitness and MWell Solutions. Kyle is currently taking enrollment for AquaFIT, BootCamp, CoreFIT Pilates, and Yoga. The cost per month is $60 for two classes a week, $90 for three classes a week, and $120 for unlimited classes. Kyle feels fitness for seniors is important as well offering a SeniorFIT class through a punch card system. The cost is $2 per class and the punch cards are sold in five to ten class denominations. If you are a first time senior and don't have a punch card yet they are sold on site and you can take classes at the drop in rate of $3 per class. All of the family events in the world can not make a city family friendly without community safety. Kyle understands this as well as any city and the statistics testify to the same. According to City Data, the crime rate is well under the national average due to citizens who work well with law enforcement to keep things safe. Crime reports are as follows:
The overall crime score is 202.2 compared to the national average of 328.4.
So now that it's established that crime is low in Kyle, the family activities are in abundance. Every April for nine years, Kyle has held a Family Fun Ride and Bike Rodeo. Held annually at Gregg-Clarke Park all registrants get a t-shirt and watch a safety demonstration about using helmets and bicycle safety. Then all registered families ride their bicycle in a predetermined path that will take them straight through Downtown Kyle.
On the first Saturday of every June and throughout the year, Lake Kyle hosts its "Hooked on Fishing" events. This event is for children to the basics of fishing from tying a hook to a line, casting, bait, fish identification and rules. A fishing tournament is held in March as a fundraiser to help pay for the children's event.
