James Hutto was born on June 8, 1824 in Alabama. In 1855 he moved his family to Williamson County TX where he became a very wealthy cattleman. In 1876 he sold 50 acres to the Texas Land Company of New York for railroad right-of-way and a town site. That same year the International-Great Northern Railroad laid tracks through the area which was named Hutto TX. This area became a sanctuary for German and Swedish immigrants who started farming and ranching the land. The town remained extremely small for well over 100 years until the area began a population explosion from the year 2000 on.
