Bastrop is the county seat in Bastrop County and is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Austin, Texas. Bastrop is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area along the Colorado River. The historical downtown business district lies on the east bank of the river and the city limits also extend to the west side of the river. The city of Bastrop covers 9.1 square miles with 0.12 miles being water.
