If you’ve prepared the above in advance, your moving day should be very seamless. Everyone will know exactly where they need to go, what they need to be doing, you won’t have to wrangle children or pets, and your items will be picked up, transported, and unloaded without incident.
Be sure to wake up early and have everything prepared so the movers can start loading as soon as they arrive. Moving day is stressful, but remember that once you’re done, you’ll be ready to settle into your new home.
Moving time:
The amount of time it takes to move will vary greatly depending on how much furniture you have, how much you’ve prepared in advance, the size of your home, and the distance to your new home.
Plan for:
- Studio to 1-bedroom – 2 to 3 hours
- 2- to 3-bedroom – 4 to 5 hours
- 4-bedroom and up – Over 6 hours
Your moving duties:
- Drop off kids and pets with sitter
- Provide snacks, refreshments, paper towels, and wet wipes, and preorder lunch for your movers and helpers
- Keep a first aid kit handy
- Store a spare key to your current and future home in your glovebox or somewhere accessible in case you get locked out
- Take responsibility for transporting your valuables and personal documents
- Confirm driving route with movers and helpers
- Arrive at the property before the movers
- Have parking ready for when the moving truck arrives
- Pay movers
