The review of Pima Vocational High School offered by GreatSchools.org is shallow and misleading. The statistics for the enrolled students fall outside of the range of most students in Arizona. Some statistics are just wrong. This school provides a quality education and certified high-school diploma for at-risk students. Students are between the ages of 16 and 21. The majority have already dropped out of at least one other traditional high school. Some have also dropped out of another alternative school. If you want your main-stream child to attend a large university, this isn't the place for him/her. On the other hand, if your child is struggling in their traditional public school, especially after the damage inflicted by COVID, check out this school. It may be the best alternative for your student. For many students over the past 20 years, it has meant the difference between success and oblivion. jc

A+++ 5 stars!!! The teachers have been so supportive and loving. My daughter now Loves going to school here. She feels so comfortable, she isn't stressed like she was at her other school. She doesn't have the pressure, along with the teachers being there for her and doesn't have to deal with kids bullying her. I know now she can go to school and focus on what she needs to,and will graduate before we know it

Serves a population of struggling students and lacks support from its charter, Pima County. The County advertises a teaching job that is "open continuously" on their website because they cannot keep teachers here (this is DESPITE better than average charter school pay & benefits). Classrooms can kindly be called cozy and are more accurately dangerously crowded when all the students do show up. Computers run ancient software; furniture consists of hand-me-downs from the County. A small staff and some of the teachers are exceptional but overall I'd avoid this place unless you are trying to toughen your kid up before sending them off to boot camp.

Fantastic school with great opportunities for the students! PVHS has a sensible, clearly understandable grading and credit system. Small class sizes make it easier to succeed. Students can earn HS credit for work in outside jobs and can learn work skills in internships with businesses that have a relationship with the school. Best of all, the teachers and staff treat their students with respect and expect their students to succeed. This school is a refreshing alternative to public schools who seem eager to pull the rug out from under struggling students and families. I'd recommend PVHS to anyone who is fed up with the public schools.
