An excellent school with amazing leadership. The best high school in the District.A few of the teachers need to be shaken up.We've found that two of Honors English teachers (they are related) exhibit hubris when it comes to their teaching. They ask for behavior for their students that they themselves don't practice (i.e. the easy way to do something and procrastinating - specifically in their grading speed.)A very good administration and in general very active parents (in their kids lives) as opposed to other surrounding high schools. Highly recommend sending your child(ren) here especially if you can utilize the school of choice program

If your child doesn't have any problems that would impair their rate of learning (i.e. dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, etc) then they would do well. If your son or daughter needs additional support it will be a struggle. If they have an IEP then you're really in trouble. The teachers tend to 'lecture vs teach' their class and the only dialogue between student and teachers seems to happen with students already doing well in the class. If they need extra support the teachers don't seem to engage with the struggling students very well. In the end if your child is a good independent student who doesn't need help or much support they will do fine here.

I have now two children at this school. At one point I had my son at a local prestigious private school in 8th grade and was planning on keeping him at that school. However, when my daughter was a freshman at San Juan, I was able to clearly see the academics and programs that the school offered were on par, if not far surpassed the private schools in the area. If your child is focused and an honors student, this school is excellent. The teachers are smart and caring and classes are taught to prepare them for the competition in college. In addition, this school has a variety of classes and courses to choose from. Almost way too many. To the point that my daughter felt bad she didn’t have room to take a lot of the classes she was interested in. If your child is one that challenges him/herself, than I assure you, it’s an amazing high school. The honors and ap teachers, counselors and even the amazing principal are here to prepare them for what’s to come in college. I have no doubt that college will be easier than high school for my daughter and son!

Went here all 4 years of high school. It was pretty great academics wise. The teachers are all very understanding and helpful on the tough curriculum. I do know there were a few situations with bullying and other things that should not be done behind teachers backs but overall this school was worth going to, especally because I had the option to go to either Tesoro or Capo

Great school, the only issue I personally experienced was feeding 0-7 to the math teacher. The class just roasted me over and over and made me hate life for a day, I got over it though and love this school.

Private School in a Public School. BRAND NEW building 2017, refreshing staff and teacher attitude. The teachers WANT to hear from students and parents. Visit them for an open enrollment event...feels like a private school. Highest percentage of students taking Honors/AP in Capo Dist.Left J Serra, for a happy transformation. My son said the teachers are better and the classroom size the same. Great Sports and Arts programs.Go visit and you will be happily suprized

We came from great private schools in Atlanta and had no idea what to expect from a public school here. From the moment we arrived on campus, we were greeted with warm welcomes from administrators, staff, parents and students. It has been nothing but pleasant surprises. We hit the jackpot with the academic advisor assigned to my children, but I am sure they are all wonderful. Can't say enough good things about this school.

Having had a child attend for 4 years, graduate and get into his top choice of colleges, I cannot say enough wonderful things about the teachers, administration and staff. Yes, the building and property are very nice, their equipment is top notch, but if you don't have quality people, you haven't got anything. Their numbers are getting higher, I hope they can handle the high enrollment without the over crowding at surrounding schools. I do wish they would open La Pata, this has always bothered me from a safety point, but I am confident with so many students enrolled the city will realize this needs to happen as soon as possible! It is a great school. You get what you put into it. The school spirit is highly contagious! I am excited for my next child to attend!

The administration is fantastic, engaged with student and concerned with overall academics and prep for college. Though there is a diverse attendance all students are treated with respect and there is a clear concept of what is acceptable behavior. Great school spirit. I could not say enough positive things about SJHHS. Only negative is the access to the school by vehicle or foot and the cost to park is $100 a year, which with mello roos tax funding should not be a reasonable charge, blame that on CUSD's issues with budget.

has an outstanding surf team as well that has won first place this year in our league finals over all other schools in its league.
