Went to pick up my diploma 7 or so years ago . My grandmother and mother were with me as we were just stopping by to pick it up. We had a little family back and forth as most families do while in waiting room but weren’t loud or obnoxious in any way.and it was about something unrelated to dipolma. And lady who was in office somehow offended by this then threatened to not give me my diploma . I don’t know her name but she had dark hair shorter and not trying to be mean but very noticeable thin mustache on her lip . Some other worker saw this and you could tell by the disappointment on his face she’s done stuff like this before. But that’s just crazy how you can spend 4 years of your life somewhere and they put someone like this in charge of diplomas. This school could do better

If you are a college bound student then this school is for you. If you are a student with a disability, you are forgotten. Minimal services, minimal family inclusion. I've had two children enrolled in this district and the differences in opportunities are appalling.

I had 3 children attend this hs. The education provided prepared them well enabling them to succeed in life choices. Teachers seemed to engage students . The music program was exceptional years back. Communication between teachers and parents could use improvement. Focus on fb is a bit extreme.?The core factor of foundational ed is hood and the critical part of this evaluation.

I have read some of the other post about Hononegah. The comments about athletics is wrong, they don't just care about sports. I'm an old parent that had two boys that graduated from there between 2005- 2011 and one is a teacher there. I've attend musicals, sporting event and have interacted with the kids. There are still values within the school and the kids, this school was rank in the top 40 as a public school for Illinois. Take the time and read other ranking "USNEWS, Best High Schools in Illinois". Please take the time to do a full investigation before limiting to just one!!

This is the top high school in the region. They offer a wide range of honors, ap, and career tech classes, and their graduates have been accepted to some of the most prestigious colleges in the country. You will not find a better school in Northern Illinois.

Would not recommend this school. Like other reviews academics are a back burner to sports. Go to the Facebook page every post is about sports. My child's schedule got messed up twice. One year no English class, another year no driver's education. They corrected the English but driver's education we had to get from Drive Right. Also one year of PE and PE might be the only physical activity some kids get. It should be at least three years. We moved to Rockton for this school. What a mistake. Not a very welcoming environment. Administration and teachers are okay nothing outstanding. Should have stayed in the suburbs. Not worth it.

I attended this high school from 2016-2020 and had no issues at all with the place. There was never any issues with bullying and the teachers make learning interesting.

The school looks great on paper, but is actually terrible in practice. They only care about their athletic programs, hence the 18 million dollar field house. Yes, 18 million. Yet they cannot keep the building free of pests such as roaches, mice/rats, and even bats. The building is also constantly broken in some way or another. Also, the higher staff is purely negligent in the matter of student safety. They’re sending us in with a -23 Fahrenheit windchill. Bus riders will have to stand outside long enough that frostbite may occur at these temperatures. Also, in matters involving sexual harassment, they did very little to ensure that it would not happen again.

I used to get bullied a lot and I went to one of the principals and one kid would tell a story and then I would tell mine and they would believe the other persons story. I like the school but they need to work on the bullying that happens in the school.

This school district is a bit of a joke. The majority of its funding goes toward sports, not academics. The administration and faculty care more about how many "clubs" & "sports" their students are in then with real life experiences or having their students participate in worth while causes. The administration is all about political agendas. If you put your student in this school, make sure you are wealthy or are good friends with someone on staff because that is the only way your student will have a leg up. The varsity baseball coach is entirely unprofessional and makes terrible decisions and should have been removed a long time ago; but again...because of political agendas, he's not and the baseball players absolutely despise him. Good luck!

Do not put your children in this school. You go to the principal and or assit principal expecting help with bullying and your child gets in trouble for defending him/herself. You follow the rules and jump the hoops and your child is not only victimized by the bullys but by the school too!!

Hononegah has great teachers. They really prepare you for college. One thing I don't like about the school was that they did very little to help those with disabilities, compared to the other schools I went to. And they have no vocational programs. Basically, they have nothing to offer those who are Borderline Intellectual Functioning and the like. I don't see why people say it's crowded. I'm a transfer from Beloit Memorial. That school is crowded - and bigger. You barely can breathe in the hallways during passing time. Hononegah is not crowded. I was also a bit sad that they didn't offer Latin classes. For a school that has great curriculum and gets so much praise, they sure didn't have a lot of the electives I previously took. Or programs.

I was a former student at Hononegah, and I must say, this it was not only the worst school I've ever attended, but the worst experience of my life. The curriculum was horribly outdated, there were no elective courses (at least when I was there) the lunch period was unforgivably short, and the teachers were all jerks. Worst of all, the police there were so trigger happy, that I got arrested without prior notice because of a /rumor/, I had my name cleared but I needed years of therapy to recover from the trauma. So please, do NOT send your children to this high school under ANY circumstances.
