School does not have students academically at their grade level for the most part. They try to compensate with extra classes in 7th grade, with leads to a 45 minute study hall every other day, so not enough time to complete a fraction of the homework assignments. Schools focus is heavily on sports, if you are not an athlete you simply do not have a place there. Very clichey , most teachers have their kids in this poorly academically rated school, which does not lead to the best culture with the friends and family cliches.

Sports is a big thing at this school. Education is given very less importance. Involved parents and committed students do well and the school advertises them as though it was due to their hard work. Communication with parents is very very poor or should I say Nil. They send emails and phone messages about school dances, fund raising events or for anything that needs money. But educational related like Mathcounts, Spelling Bee, Science Fair, Who wants to be Chemist or any other activities, Parents do not hear anything at all. Kids are informally told in the class about the event and not encouraged to Participate. My son as a kinder and Preschooler used to participate in Science Fair at another State and School with so much enthusiasm. But now in Middle school he doesn’t show any interest. Teachers are good but not sure why they don’t encourage students to excel and go beyond. May be they are not taken care of well by the School. Principal is very unfriendly and doesn’t even smile when he sees Parents, except when he knows them personally. Overall not very happy.

The school needs new leadership. Irresponsive to parents. Reports of bullying and violence plague this school but it’s never openly discussed so it’s not likely that it will ever be addressed let alone fixed. They rely solely on their reputation as being a great school but that reputation is slowly dwindling.

Wilson West is an outstanding school. It is in a beautiful setting, and it is a brand new building with state of the art facilities. I have had two children go through this school and both enjoyed their time there. Camp Swatara is a highlight of 6th grade. The teaching staff has many dedicated and qualified people on their staff. The band instruction by Mr. Houser has been a highlight of my son's time there. You can't get any better than this school.

Replaced by Wilson West which is the top rated middle school in berks county according to schooldigger.com. The person who wrote about fights is way off base. There was one fight between two girls last year and one after school between two athletes. This is an awesome school. With lots of opportunities for all students.

This school was closed at the end of the 2009-10 school year and was replaced by Wilson West Middle School - a grade 6-8 facility.

Had multiple problems with fights in the school. It's also too big and unwieldy to get a lot of personal attention. There were decent teachers and programs but I wouldn't recommend this district to parents looking for a good school. Stick with Wyo or maybe Exeter.
