The school has an advanced middle school, similar to Whitney Young and other top ranked Chicago schools. This really helps students transition for high school, due to taking courses taught by specialists in each subject, rather than a general 7th or 8th grade teacher. The school also offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) program which is recognized globally. Students who don't go through these special programs still receive a high quality education from dedicated staff who come early and stay late to help students.

My son was injured in gym class at the school. My son reported an injury to the PE teacher but was not assisted in any way. My son had to crawl out into the hallway to get help. After his father picked him up he was taken to the hospital where he was admitted for a hip fracture. I requested a meeting and an incident report on several occasions. I was treated incredibly disrespectfully by the administration because of my persistence. If this is the kind of experience you wish to have, enroll your kids at Morgan Park High School.

Terrible, 1st thing that needs to be done is the REMOVAL of carolyn epps whom is causing the decline in all areas, she has NO respect for her staff or student and puts on a face for parents. She locks down educational resources from students just because she feels like it. She is NOT AN EDUCATIONAL professional. She is power struck by her position as principal of this school.

The best school on the Southside! I graduated from Morgan Park in 1998 and I had the greatest high school experience from 94-98. I wouldn't change anything about them.

I don't know where to begin. I am so disappointed and increasingly disturbed by what goes on at this school. The problems were apparent on day one, September 6, 2016, of my child's attendance there. My child told me that there was an older student standing by an entrance door smoking 'a funny looking cigarette' and a security guard was right there and said nothing. There is a dress code that is not enforced at all. There have been multiple fights, cursing, rap music playing and blatant disrespect of staff. The metal detectors go off upon entry but the inside of book bags often go unchecked. Last week the fire alarm was pulled four out of five days. Upon evacuation, some students do not bother to return. I feel now feel sorry for my child and other children who want to learn and be free from these very worrisome distractions. The administration seems to be aware of many issues, via the safety survey and verbal reports, but I see nothing being done to ameliorate the situation. If the serious students are not made to feel safe, and Be Safe, they will leave this school in droves. I wish I knew then, before we enrolled, what I know now. There are no parent opportunities to volunteer,we were told ,other than to help out at dances or extra curricular activities. It seems to me that MPHS could use many willing volunteers to help in the halls- if nothing more than guarding the fire alarms! The good thing I have to share is that my child really likes the teachers and thinks they care about teaching. But, if a child has to fight through mayhem to get to class- how is that fair, acceptable , or right? Perhaps the CPS Director of Security can offer some insight. MPHS needs some proactive measures in place- not just a reaction when/if something Really Tragic occurs. I have recently read comments about how MPHS WAS a great school. I truly hope it can be great again ONE DAY.

My entire family and I along with several friends graduated from here. I had the best four years any teen could ask for. Prom was so nice, homecoming was great,the school is culturally diverse so you really get to enjoy a lot of different things.

Morgan Park High School is a great learning environment for students to prepare for college.My child goes there and is a honor student. However the staff should require all students to select a career path within the first two years. This would allow the student to start preparing for college majors. I believe the children are not aware of the benefits of knowing what you want to do in life . This opens many doors and makes college exciting because you know what you want out of life. Great School with total education as the focus for the students. Bob R.

Teachers: In Morgan Park, there is a wide range of teachers with varying intelligence levels. Some teachers work hard to ensure that every student understands the material, while some only teach for a paycheck. Unfortunately, the number of poor teachers far outweighs the number of excellent teachers. For the most part, teachers spend more time trying to get the class to quiet down than actually teaching. Students: Generally speaking, the students here are very ignorant, arrogant, and loud. Most are more concerned about their social lives and their appearances than learning. Students are also extremely rude. A lot of them talk back to teachers and curse openly. Expect random arguments or loud outbursts in class. General: The school has gained a bad reputation over the past few years. It is now filled with underachievers and students who seem to be more concerned about their social lives than school work. The classes are often overcrowded. Currently, there is no administration governing the school. There is always a fight or some drama. Some teachers do not care enough about students. Counselors are also awful. Some, not all, counselors will talk down on you.

As a sophomore in MP's IB program, I love it. In IB I met students like me, who I can connect to, who think it's cool to be intelligent and succeed. Also the teachers are great, they guide you the best they can, and the rest falls on your shoulders. IB is a challenge, and if you can't take the heat then transfer, but you'll regret it later, because it prepares you for what's out there. As for the environment, it could be better, but if the students were responsible enough they'd share some of the responsibility of making the environment better. MP is a great school, and as an IB student I love it.

i am a new parent of a ac student at mp i have very mixed emotions about this school its a great opportunity for my daughter to be choosen for this type of eduction however im having much regret not insisting my child go goes to on of the other ac programs in chicago public schools socially the eviroment is horrible and the staff and administion does not seem to try to care to make it a safer or appealling to students to want to learn or retain students of higher standards i have an older family memeber in attendance of the school so i was encourage from her and trying to keep my child at mp but unless i see major impovements in the new year which is her 8th grade year i will be looking for other places for her to attend high school and encouraging no one else to send their child to mp for any program they have to offer

I am about to be a freshman in the IB program and I already regret it. I went through the AC and chose to stay here. I now regret it after seing my future classmates. I plan on doing extremely well so I can transfer sophmore year. I don't fit in at all. If you do not like baggy pants and rap music you will have a hard time. It is not diverse. Any originality is made fun of. I was walking down the hallways talking to a friend and some random person just pushed me; and I didn't even know him. Don't send your kids here. If your son can't fight don't send him here.

I am a student here. If you put your child in Academic Center or IB they will have a very challenging and rigourous education that will prep them for colleges. AC/IB students at MPHS go to the top colleges in the country... However there are a few fights, fire alarms pulls, students that are out of the neighborhood, a lot of ditching, police presence, and if you are not in AC or IB or even taking AP classes, the Honors and Regulars classes are a joke. This school gets a C- as far as I'm concerned.
